Is there a standerd uniform for all lines? I thought it was a blue shirt, but I've seen Metropolitan Line drivers wearing white shirts, Northern Line wearing grey, and one certain young man wearing a dashing florescent orange jacket.

The uniform on the operational side is standard. To summarise briefly, everyone has dark blue trousers and nice foot killing DM shoes. Shirts are blue for the front-line workers such as drivers, signal operators, station assistants; or white for managerial grades (station supervisors, duty managers, modern signalling centre staff). Instructor Operators are (I think) also issued with white shirts but one of them on here will confirm. The huge orange jackets are mainly issued to Duty Managers and are worn to make them more visible - especially when dealing with incidents outside the comfort of their offices! The grey you saw on the Northern is more than likely the first signs of their staff receiving the new issue. See districtdave.proboards39.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1111417789 for more information on this lovely package they have designed for us.

Do they have UNDM shoes as well? Yes, but they are for people who are permanantly uncoupled.

Instructor Operators are (I think) also issued with white shirts but one of them on here will confirm. As much as they should have some sort of recognisable difference, at the moment I/O's wear the same uniform as all other drivers. I believe most of the I/O's have this type of jacket too, although they very rarely wear them! There are certain Met and east-end District drivers who never wear the official uniform. One Upminster driver always wears a white shirt and a brightly-coloured tie with a waistcoat... Must admit he looks a lot smarter than the rest of us! LU should let him design the uniforms!

The grey you saw on the Northern is more than likely the first signs of their staff receiving the new issue. The new uniform is a darker shade of blue. Grey was the previous colour, so the person you saw Chris, is a little out of date.

With my mob, we are supposed to wear a common uniform. However, since quit a few of the items issued are absolute rubbish, and the uniform supplier is notoriously unreliable, and some of the old pieces of kit are much better than their replacements, most everyone wears a rather eclectic mix of attire.
Oh, and count me in with the hi-vis parka crowd. Much better quality that our uniform issue parka, and considering how often I run around trackside, I really need it.
