PS: To those who don't know, this is a joke, please don't take it seriously. I don't wish to appear thick, but can you explain it please?

Its good, shame about the spelling mistake, the privately educated BBC boys and girls would never do that!

Its good, shame about the spelling mistake, the privately educated BBC boys and girls would never do that! They'd probably also claim that this was common and speculate on it! Atleast they aren't as bad as ITN news, I have to give them that.

Yep, Hangar Lane is where it's possible to cross over to Piccadilly metals, so if you accept a wrong stick, you end up with a District train on the Piccadilly line, not a great mix!

Plus the url address is to your desktop, you have a tab open with a picture of Ken Livingstone and to top it all off, according to your browser, the story is about "Strike firefighters back on duty"! [/pendantic] ;D

Yep, Hangar Lane is where it's possible to cross over to Piccadilly metals, so if you accept a wrong stick, you end up with a District train on the Piccadilly line, not a great mix! If I had a fiver for every train which took a wrong stick at Hanger Lane, I'd be rich. A Picc driver once went to Ealing Broadway. He stopped in the platform, changed ends with his guard (without opening the doors), got permission to go back and shot back to Ealing Common. The punters trooped off the train to go over to the other side to get another Rayners. When it arrived, HE went round to Ealing as well! Poor old Ernie T......, he did get a lot of stick - in more ways than one. On the other side, a well known Northfields District driver of the day went round to N Ealing, tipped out as usual, and went up to S Harrow to reverse. I followed him up and passed him coming back on the EB, cab light on, EALING on the front, leaning on the whistle as he ran through Sudbury Hill. Talk about making an exhibition of himself! Many years later, he became test train driver for the District. I was in the rolling stock department by then and sometimes I would accompany him on test runs for D Stock up to Ruislip or Uxbridge. He already knew the road! He also used to do deliveries. You took 2 x 2-cars of COP stock as Pilot Units. They would put a unit on each end of a 3-car D Stock. A through air brake hose was run through the D Stock unit so you could get a brake on both pilot units. J.. kept hitting sticks with this lash up until someone explained that with the EP isolated, he would only get 35lbs in the brake cylinders. He got the message after that and took it a bit easier. Later, we got the shops to set the blow downs at 55lbs to help him.
