Afternoon all. Just had a look at live travel info at TfL, and saw this: I gather this wasn't planned, so has something happened that requires a partial line shut down until further notice, or is it just TfL's new way of wording a part suspension?

It was planed late on Thursday afternoon after two days of delays due to defective track in the Brixton area.

I see there is more emergency engineering work from 8pm tonight. No service Victoria-Brixton.
Does anybody know what the issue is with the brand new scissors crossover at Brixton, which was installed with such a fanfare and long line closure only a few years ago?!

There will be no service on the entire line after 2100, with services reducing from 1930-2000. There is a problem with the points which led to a 10mph TSR and reduced service Victoria - Brixton.

Yup but whats wrong with the points, which are only a few years old?
Has to be serious to suspend services.

Something to do with a wing rail. They will be closing the line so that hopefully it can be fixed and all done for tomorrow morning's service, that way a full service can operate.

According to the trackernet, there is an engineering train at Pimlico, on its way to Brixton.
Why not operate a reduced service Victoria-Walthamstow?

It was on the TfL 'realtime' website this afternoon. Something mentioning delays due to faulty track at Brixton and a warning that the entire line would be closed from 20.00 for emergency engineering work.

According to the trackernet, there is an engineering train at Pimlico, on its way to Brixton. Why not operate a reduced service Victoria-Walthamstow? You can't have an Engineer's Train working on the line at the same time as passenger trains, as the Slug doesn't have Vic Line ATP.

Vic is now running Victoria-Walthamstow.

Does anybody know what the issue is with the brand new scissors crossover at Brixton, which was installed with such a fanfare and long line closure only a few years ago?! 1) It's not that brand new. The crossover has also been replaced quite a few times over the years. 2) The crossover takes quite a hammering with approx 57 train movements per hour during the peaks! In terms of train movements per day, it is probably the busiest scissors crossover in the world! So it's probably no surprise that it needs some emergency maintenance occasionally.
