Were there ever any plans to continue the Victoria Line beyond Walthamstow to meet the Central Line at Snaresbrook or South Woodford?
I know with the current passneger levels an extension would be very unlikely, but it seems very odd that they get so close, but the connection was never made.

I believe Wood St [which is on the mainline from Liverpool St] was going to be the terminus, but was cut back to Walthamstow,.......was it due to tight curves being necessary?
The Victoria is now working at maximum capacity, so an extension is not feasible.

The plan was indeed to send the Vic to Wood Street Walthamstow. However, as Tubeboy said, if interchange was to be maintained at Hoe Street station tight curves would have to be constructed, or the Hoe Street Vic station could've been built further north but interchange would be a problem with the bus station (and no room down Wood Street for a bus station either). Plus, terminating at Hoe Street saved £4 million on the project. As with a lot of the Victoria line, economy was priority 1.
Terminating at South Woodford for the Central line is a good idea, but a) I'd never get a seat at Walthamstow anymore! and b) it'd cost money, which governments don't really like doing, although it would save getting a bus from Woodford on Sundays when I go to the EOR.
Only if a relief line were implemented in Waltham Forest could such a proposal go ahead for interchange at South Woodford or Woodford *cough* Jubilee extension via Leyton, Walthamstow Central, Crooked Billet Roundabout and Chingford Mount please (or converting the Chingford line into a tube would do nicely, thanks) *cough*

Before the building work started at Walthamstow, the original plan was for the station to be where the station car park is now, this used to be a goods yard also the old Walthamstow power station was situated there.

Chingford was the eventual destination of that bit, along the NR line. That would still be a great idea, there being many site for proposed stations along that stretch, but the Vic line is a vic of its own sucess (couldnt resist the CSI pun there ). A relief line would be the best bet; there being many other proposals for tubes to walthamstow and beyond. The Jubilee could be put up there via Lea Bridge, or what might prove useful is making the Victoria line 9 cars.

A possibility that has been discussed before is for the Victoria line to tunnel to Woodford and take over the Epping branch. The newer, slightly larger trains would be welcome I'm sure and would give those on the branch and in the Woodford area quicker access to North London. This would bring the advantage of having just the Hainault loop for the Central line to worry about, possibly improving the reliability of this very important line in the central section. Such a plan cannot be implemented though unless a new line is built through Waltham Forest and possibly Hackney and Islington also.

Extending the Victoria line to meet the Central line would be a very good idea in my opinion but it is unlikely until says the Chelsea Hackney line is build to relieve the Victoria line, then extending the Victoria to Leytonstone would be really useful to create a three line interchange.
Not before 2025 at best I am afraid!

The only problem with sending the Victoria line to Epping is that the platforms along this route may need altering to allow clearance for the wider 2009 stock. The line 'could' be shared with the Central, but Vic trains would probably have to be driven in manual due to the incompatible ATO system.

Think it unlikely until after 2012 though :-(
