Recently there have been talks of extending the Victoria line southwards from Brixton to Streatham/Norbury etc. However this proposal has an extreamly long pedigree, indeed it featured heavily in all proposals of the line 'till its 1954 parlimentary approval. I'm curious though as to the final southern destinations intended from the 1954 approval. CULG has this to say on the matter: "The line would only run from Walthamstow to Victoria initially, but two separate southward extensions were intended. - A route via Sloane Square and Chelsea to Fulham Broadway, where it would take over the District Line branch to Wimbledon; at a later date this would be transferred to "route D", which would have run from Hackney Downs via Bank to Victoria (a proposal which still survives in modified form as the Chelsea-Hackney Line).
- The 1949 "scheme D" route to South Croydon (preferred because it served Croydon town centre), but without the extra stations north of Norbury and with a branch to East Croydon to provide main-line interchange."
Does anyone have any further details on the last bullet point such as station names, locations, branch locations? Many thanks in advance

Any extension south of Victoria cannot be accomplished unless the signalling was massively upgraded and a flying terminus built at the end of the extension. Anything less would be an utter disaster.
That said, extending the line via Herne Hill might be beneficial.

The Victoria Line is simply too busy for a sizeable extension at either end, and the planned increase in tph (28.5 - ?33) under PPP will not really address this issue enough.
Maybe, extending to Herne Hill with a higher capacity terminus (e.g with grade seperated approach, a passenger loop, or Paris style 3 track terminus) may provide more capacity than added passengers. However, to get the most out of the improved reversing capacity, then really an extra platform at Victoria, and moving block signalling would be needed. The latter certainly isn't going to happen as a new fixed block signalling system is presently being installed, which in my opinion was a rather bad choice of new signalling system.

From what I've found...
Herne Hill Streatham Hill Streatham Streatham Common Norbury Norbury South (branch to East Croydon, no intermediate stations) Mayday West Croydon Croydon Central South Croydon (branch to Coulsdon North via Purley) (branch to Sanderstead via Selsdon)
Of course this could be done by an extension of the Bakerloo or Northern (City Branch) or a new line. though I feel that it i could be done easier and cheaper with tramlink

The Victoria to Croydon would be a good thing but unlikely to happen due to the congestion of the present line. To make an extension possible 40 tph would be needed to cut the congestion a bit and this also mean appropriate terminis infrastructure (3 tracks and automatic reversal where needed).
