A bit of a long shot is this question! Just out of interest, does anyone happen to know what the angle of the diamond crossing at Brixton is?

The brixton crossover seems strange. I've sometimes got a lift with the driver down to brixton and as you approach the open area in the tunnel, it appears that you're facing the platform on the other side before you even go over the points.
If it enters the platform ahead, the track seems to curve to the left slightly.
Also, the train appears to go over the crossover at a higher speed than normal.

The crossover tracks are in fact in a straight line, and the main running lines are on a left hand curve in the direction of travel. Heathrow and Moorgate (more compact) have similar crossovers. This makes sense for a deep level high speed crossover, although Walthamstow Central has both tracks curving to allow for a slightly more compact crossover and thus a higher capacity (90sec run out run in time instead of 97sec). Quite why Brixton had a different design, I don't know. Maybe it was for a smoother ride?

Brixton was originally built with moveable angles for higher speeds over the crossing,they were removed sometime ago.

But given the limited range of speed codes on the Victoria Line, I would assume that Walthamstow's crossover which has a greater angle in the diamond crossing, is rated for the same speeds.

Thats seems reasonable. I suppose as most of the trains would be turning round at walthamstow, it would make sense to minimise the turnaround times.
Just a thought, does anyone know what code the train would be receiving when it goes over the crossover i.e 270 or 420?

Normally a 420 code is received, but if there is a train in the sidings past the platform being entered, then it drops to 270 because of the reduced overlap.

Never thought of that but its a good idea for safety reasons.
From what was said in a previous reply, when stephenk mentioned the crossover at moorgate. did he mean the one on the old northern city line thats now in the hands of WAGN?

Like the crossovers at Brixton and Heathrow, the crossover tracks are straight, and the main running lines curved.
