I was on a Victoria line train today and spotted a door indicator lamp [at least it was on when the doots where open, off when doors closed] inside the car above the side windows in the ventilator strip. Why's it there? and have they always been there 'cause I've never seen one?

Why's it there? and have they always been there 'cause I've never seen one? I believe they were put there so that passengers could see if there was a door still open in their carriage! NOT that many passengers know what they are for!

I think you'll find that those lights were installed as an aid to the Driver. Being the first one-man trains and given that the motors drop out when the pilot light goes out they were put there to tell him which car had the dodgy door when he had to do a walk through.
I remember something along those lines anyway
