Am I right in thinking that the 4th rail is only 'live' to the end of the EB/Up platform?

I don't think it is live (unless a train is on it) but it is supported by conductor rail chairs and the rail is bonded to the running rails. When the picture was taken I'm not sure whether the 501s had been converted to 3rd rail operation-by the amount of graffiti on the train I would suppect yes!

Wow they had graffiti in the olden days too :S Serious exterior scribble graffiti first appeared on LU on an A Stock in August 1984. It went downhill after that.

nope both platforms have the forth rail I have acctually seen a 72 stock that came in and reversed on the southbound platform full of metronet staff I thought that there was just an UP>Down #-over? That move would suggest a wrong-libe movement then or a shunt?

It's odd that both platforms have the 4th rail as the only way a 72stock could get to the down platform is a WDM from Queens Park down and there'd be nowhere else for it to go from there! There are 1 or 2 timetabled test trains a day from Stonebridge Park depot to Kilburn High Rd that rarely run, so thats when you probably saw the Metronet blokes.

Have the Kilburn High Road reversers ever gone there in passenger service, or has it always been an empty stock move?

all signals are trainstopped on the Bakerloo now. they fitted them to all the NR wrong road starters and Kilburn High Road about 3 years ago. Removed the need for a second man.

There is a 4th rail from 501pts? (Cross-over south of LT running shed) to the south end of Kilburn Station on the Dn line. However like the 4th rail north of Harrow it is only used as a traction current return path, and is not gauged for line or level and will also be missing ramp ends where S&T equipment etc has been mounted in the 4'.

There was a Bakerloo that went to Kilburn High Road about 22.00 yesterday (28th Feb). I was changing ends on a top and tailed loco and coaches in Kilburn loop (NR loop between Queens Park and Kilburn High Road which runs alongside the DC lines) when a tube train went past me. I was totally dumbfounded for a moment until I remembered this thread. It was heading north and stopped in the platform at Queens Park for quite a few minutes. I do not know if any passengers boarded it or not though.

Is the loop used for reversing traines then, e.g. ex-East Coast going to Euston? I know the sleepers on diversion use Wembley depot.

You were never allowed to take punters due to it being un-trainstopped. Nowadays, i don't see any reason why not except maybe there's no CSDE and it would probably cause more confusion than it would alleviate. I for one wouldn't fancy tipping a trainful of punters out there on my own when the jobs up the wall!!!

Hey all - I was getting into my Zipcar tonight right by Kilburn High Rd station at about 725 PM tonight and I saw a rather unusual site - a Bakerloo line train coming down the Overground line. It was coming from the Queens Park direction and went straight on through Kilburn High Rd and carried on towards Euston.
Does anyone know why this was? I couldn't really tell if there were people on board but the lights in the carriages were on.
Anybody know what's up??

Occasional empty stock moves are done, also for driver training. I didn't think the current rails go beyond Kilburn High Rd. There is a threat on this, look under the Bakerloo line section.

rubbish - Sorry if I duplicated a topic. I don't think it stopped at the station though, it was going pretty fast when it went under the bridge carrying the high road over the tracks. Hmmm

There was a Stonebridge Park - Queen's Park 3 train shuttle operating, reversing via Kilburn High Road, due to signal failure at Wembley (IIRC)

If the problem wsa at Wembley, then why was it run as a shuttle, instead of a through service to Elephant?

If the problem wsa at Wembley, then why was it run as a shuttle, instead of a through service to Elephant? To reduce the impact of the Wembley park issue causing further delays on the rest of the line. Keeping the bad part of the line away from the good part.
