Why is it that Oyster PAYG is valid between Kenton and H&W, but ordinary LU paper tickets aren't? A search in u.t.l. only comes up with information suggesting that H&W is an anchor station used to calculate the fares for all NR lines out of Euston, and that transferring it to the LU farepot would result in a skewed fare structure for Silverlink services.

It's stupid, I agree... Did I hear right that this line [Euston - Harrow DC] will come under the TfL umbrella? Hopefully this should sort things out for our PAYG passengers...

I believe it was a political decision to make Oyster look better. I'd assume that TFL paid for the Oyster equipment & I'd assume that Silverlink bidding for TFL's new tender were keen to seem to be helping.
I always thought that the LU standard fares to H&W are a bit strange. Someone told me that as H&W was also an intercity station, Virgin get some of the sales. But that person was a LU trainer and they're not always reliable.
But as Oyster isn't valid on Virgin services, it may lead credence to what I was told.

Do any main line trains stop at H & W these days? I worked in Wealdstone in 1981, and it was handy to get a one-stop class 312??? to Euston for business trips.

The semifast Silverlinks stop at H&W, but I don't think any of the Pendos do unless there are engineering works.

Virgin would certainly not get a slice of the Harrow revenue - the split is between Silverlink and TFL - and then throuhg the travelcard diary allocation system backed up by surveys.
390s only call in preplanned major engineering or in the major disruption at / south of Harrow contingency plan - then empty to Wembley IC Depot. Money doenst change hands for that above engineering compensation wash up of costs etc.

Not so long ago, some Intercity West Coast trains, did indeed stop at Harrow & Wealdstone... And on 30th September, The Control decided to send all the trains stopping at Harrow, straight to Euston (except Silverlink County) I boarded the Pendo with the Oyster PrePay, well it's valid between Harrow and Euston

As I said - money doesnt change hands -
That must surely be a first ! - That was a dose of common sense with a major S**g up of "non engineering works" - Control being pragmatic !
