Today's Standard gave a breakdown of crimes by station, and some of them are quite interesting. Highest was Victoria; not surprising as it's the busiest station, with 636. Heathrow Terminal 4 recorded only 1! Grotty places don't necessarily record lots of crime on the tube, e.g. Harlesden at only 18. Genteel Kew Gardens managed 6. For some reason Aldwych was in the list, with a magnificent 0 crimes in 2005/6. But in 2004/5 and 2003/4, someone managed to commit a crime (1 each year) there, even though it was closed.

Aldwych is there, presumably because a window got broken...or summat was damaged/stolen during a filming session.

I've heard two variations of this over the past two days.....
The Standard saying that crime has gone down on the tube, and another paper (the Metro I think), saying that it '' rocketed up 42% ''.
Someone's not giving us the full picture here, methinks!

depends where they got the 'stats' from. Someone might be embellishing them ever so slightly. Or it could be to do with new ways of reporting the crimes, or just that more people are actually reporting them...
But whatever the picture, being on the receiving end of an assualt or robbery isn't summat someone should have to go through.

Ooops! Mis-read it!
*Slaps self around the head*
My excuse is that I am tired from a batch of 4 earlies, the fact that the heat is making me drowsy and the fact that I have only been getting 4 hours sleep a night.....
yes I know, lame in the extreme!

To quote Mark Twain and Disreali "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics". Treat with extreme suspicion unless you've seen the 'raw' stats for yourself, especially if a politician, journo or government agency of some kind has been anywhere near them...I've seen for myself (in a rational, in depth way when researching for my MSc thesis) how civil servants/governments can manipulate so called statistics and the outcome of statistical methods to suit their needs...Really brings out the skeptic in you
