Right - today, I was on my way to Olympia because I wanted to have a look around the station, seeing as I've never been there before. First of all, I got a travelcard from Brentwood, in case of any cockups with the Oyster ( seeing as it's the first time I've used it). Anyway - I touched in a Stratford, changed at Bank onto the District at Monument, went to Earl's Court, changed to an Olympia train. When I got out at Olympia, I touched out, because I thought I'd take a couple of photos. Turns out my camera's battery was dead ( ), so, I wait till the train is about to depart, so I can touch in again (or so I thought). ** EXIT ** Flashes up on the display (again) So, what should I have done to have been allowed to touch back in again? Isn't there a specified time that passes before you're allowed to touch back in again? Anyway - suffice to say, because I had a travelcard with me, I hopped on the next train anyway, because I was covered for the journey, but my question is, what should I have done if I simply had my oystercard with me?

Were you using pay as you go? If yes then officially you'd need to wait for the required period of time to elapse before touching in again. Dunno exactly how long that is though.

Yes, I was using PAYG.
Thanks Seth.
Anyone know how long the specified waiting time is?

Why would you use Pay As You Go if you have a Travelcard? ;D ;D Do you have more money than sense? ;D ;D *puts dusty ticket office hat on* OK, are you 100% certain that the reader registered an exit when you first touched your card on it [at Olympia]? It should not be possible to register two exits within a short space of time at the same station. You can confirm this next time you are near a touchscreen machine on an LUL station - simply by looking at the card's history. There is no time limit between exiting a station and re-entering it - the only time limits are on a single journey (2 hours) & entry then exit at the same station (15 minutes).

Well, as I said, I used pay as you go AND a travelcard, because I figured that if I had any cockups with the Oyster, as it was the first time I'd ever used it, I'd be covered in case anything went wrong I'm sure that it did register two exits, however I'll check next time I can.

I dont understand why you are using both Joe, if you are going on the national rail, then a paper travelcard would be the best option.

So long as you'd reached capping and had touched in and out (regardless of registering two exits, as you hadn't 'timed out' at the gates) then you wouldn't have had a problem with the ol' Oyster.

I used both, this once, because it was the first time I've ever used Oyster. I used the travelcard to 1) get me up to Stratford in the first place, and 2) to cover my journey if for some reason, I couldn't get Oyster to work properly.
