LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

My colleague has some, I will ask him to e-mail them to me. The front end is pretty dented and the stops look a little flat too!

Not that I'm aware of, there was certainly no mention of injuries or the attendance of the emergency services in the Netwrok Operations Centre (NOC) text message.

Sorry for the delay, but I've finally got round to uploading some pics of 5723. Note the stops now lying in the pit, and the missing running rail on the left of the pic which is still attached to the stops. This shows how little distance the train has really gone past the correct position, compared to the train in the foreground Close-up of the damage to 5723

Looks like a fair amount of damage, any estimate of speed on impact?

Has this train been repaired, or are these pictures from today?.

The pictures were taken about a week ago, so as yet the train hasn't even been moved, let alone repaired I believe the impact speed would have been very low, due to the short distance that it has gone beyond the stopping mark.

That's a lot of damage for a low speed impact even taking into consideratoin the weight of the train

Yeah, there looks to be a great deal of distortion to the rubbing plate, coupler spine and cab frame - I wonder if it is economic to repair, given that the Cs only have about 3-4 years left to go.

I think you'll find it will be a lot more than 3-4 years before the C stock are gone Given that the first pre-production S stock aren't due until 2009, and the A stock will be replaced first, even if everything was to run to schedule, I reckon you will still see C stock around for 6-7 years at the least ;D

But how easily could a frame distortion like this be repaired? Given the lack of spare bodyshells I can't imagine that Metronet wants to spend the dosh needed to fabricate all-new frame members.

They will definately repair this unit, they have repaired units with far more damage than that! Besides which, with Bombardier in their consortium they have the means too.
I suspect you will see the last 'C' Stock leave the railway in around 2013. Metronet may decide to alter the rollout of the SSR fleet which would mean that 'C' Stock get retired first, in which case they would disappear in 2011 so treat 2013 as worse case.

Yes, I did wonder how that would read when I typed it! ;D I am determined to get the LTM to take two complete units, so that we can still run a four car on special occasions. They don't have much space left so I guess they could scrap all the 'A' stock and use the metal to build a nice shed to protect it from the elements! Oh here we go!

TEH NOES!!
If anything, they should save FOUR units of double-ended A stock - two for CHTL and two for Doctor Yellow-style TRTs and departmental usage. All three stocks ought to be saved, but given the lack of space at the LTM Acton, I have a bad feeling that the Cs are the most likely to be saved...

Why would they alter the roll out schedule and replace C rather than A stocks?

But then you never get to run one.
Slightly off topic (Me? Never! ;D ) but I think it's a great shame they didn't keep a 59/62 unit.

Actually, they did - but by proxy. Cravens Heritage Trains owns an eight-car 1962TS in as-withdrawn condition; unfortunately I don't know where it is ATM.
I believe there are enough reasonably-intact 1959TS cars floating around to allow at least one four-car 1959TS to be reformed.

Cravens have a 4 car unit of '62ts at Hainault which is being restored. I helped do some work on her in the past, but since moving to Sussex and with my shift patterns etc i've not been there for a while. She's still there AFAIK.

But then you never get to run one. Slightly off topic (Me? Never! ;D ) but I think it's a great shame they didn't keep a 59/62 unit. Cravens have 62ts unit 1506-2506-9507-1507 at Hainault. DM 1031 (ex heritage train) stands on a plinth in Morden Depot. Mangapps Farm has DM 1030-T 2030 from the Heritage train, and the Alderney Railway has DM's 1044-1045 also from the Heritage train. Roger Brown in Dorset has 59ts cars DM 1018-T 2018 & DM 1304 in his garden, and T 2304-NDM 9305 in store on a MoD site. Last I heard, he was planning to buy DM 1305 from the Sutton Hall Railway, and reform unit 1304. If this unit was ever to run again, he was planning to use cars 1018 & 2018 as a source of spair parts. 1018-2018 & 1305 are in whithdrawn condition, 1304 has already been partly restored by it's first owner, and work is ongoing. 2304-9305 however, after spending around six years standing down by the sea at MoD Shoeburyness before being saved and moved, have at least two doors missing, and are covered in green slime. Roger is currently looking for a site were all the cars can be stored undercover. I Personally feel that a society should be formed to assist Roger in restoring these cars, as it is huge undertaking for one person alone. there are also still a large number of 62ts cars in the service fleet. if anyone wishes to contact Roger, I have his email address.
