Just tried to read old quotes to threads on new v4. Typeface very hard to read . standard typeface seems to have changed also . They also made me reactivate my account as well . Prefer the old overall Come on Q8- lets have some of your caustic/nostalgic comments about how things were better ;D before they changed them

TBH - I hate it that it asks for my age... so therefore it now thinks my age is absurd. I'd rather have a simpler board system (maybe something like phpBB), but that is my opinion.

Although I sympahise with the points expressed, I suspect it's a matter of familiarity and that we'll get used to it quite shortly.
I don't think font sizes are something that 'we've' got any control over, but I'll have a look at the Admin functions later.
Again, I know that ProBoards isn't perfect, but it does the job, and I'm not going to start all over again elsewhere - that would REALLY p**s people off!

On the age thing, it doesn't display it publically (unless you want it to of course) and I've a feeling that under some US legislation it has to be submitted and that those under a certain should not be able to sign up to such boards. Not 100% sure on that - but I've a feeling I've seen it somewhere on another site (nothing to do with either ProBoards or Transport!)

AND it won't let me preview (as you can see above)

When the login asks for your age DONT put a false age which would make you look under 13 years old, Proboards will wipe out your account, I know this from experience on other proboards forums.
The 'TOO MANY CONNECTIONS' problem sorts itself out after a few days.

I don't think font sizes are something that 'we've' got any control over, but I'll have a look at the Admin functions later. I'm pretty sure you have. I did a proboards forum for my year group at school and I know that I changed the font quite a bit. Anyway, in my opinion v4 is miles better - it has more functions, which can't be a bad thing (since all the old ones are still there!). I would give it a "thumbs up" smiley if I could ;D!!!! BTW, I can preview messages OK

Regarding the age thing, it is indeed a US law -the COPPA, Children Online Privacy Protection Act, I believe it is called. And those across the atlantic have a weird tendency to regard US civil law as universally applicable, irregardless of what country you are a citizen of -something that has, for example, made it ia very dicey proposition for me to visit the USA. I believe that the ProBoards servers are located in continental USA, though, so they would have to obey US law.
Regardign the font size thing, most browser have the ability to adjust the font size to your liking. The exact method depends on what browser you are using, but try looking under "display options" or "preferences", or look for font resizing in the help files.

If you are using Mozilla Firefox, go to VIEW > TEXT SIZE > INCREASE. In you are using Internet Explorer, do the same, except choose LARGE or LARGER etc.

No- it's 0ut of your hands and we are all grateful for what you do- but I am STILL looking forward to Q8' comments ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ;D Oh Really ! You make me sound like some miserable old b*stard who lives in the past. Oh well. perhaps I am. As for V4 from what I have seen of it I quite like it. The extra features will be useful but like yourself I hope the "too many users" thing will not last more than a day or two. If it does the I'll put me teef in and let rip don't worry.

Young Mr Setttt raises one point I would like to see and that is MORE smileys. I have some 'intresting' smilies for MSN. Though I doubt they'd be suitable here! Oh, and yes - I did create a Yorkshire Tea one! I don't find this board too much different from the old one. Though I did like the old one a bit more. It served it's purpose without being too complicated. Wait - it has a spell checker! Great!

ProBoards have made a mistake with COPPA actually.
COPPA means anyone can register to a forum - but, if one is under 13, they should fill out a form and send it to ProBoards.

I HATE version 4. I hate it as much as I hate Milan*. Too many connections? What the hell is that?
*I have my reasons.

Too many connections means that the server is slowly overloading and about to explode.

Yeh, V4 is good. But like Chris I keep getting the too many connections message. What have proboards done that overloads their servers so much! Thats never happened before.

As was stated earlier, the 'too many connections' messages will (or at least should) disappear in a few days. They certainly did on other forums I'm a member of.
I don't think there was any choice about whether we upgraded or not... If we run on PB, then we have to go with whatever PB think is best! Don't worry, you'll get used to it!

What's happened to my devil picture?? ;D I'll have to sort that out. Other than that it don't seem much different, bit like the refurbs really, not much change in the end.

What's happened to my devil picture?? ;D And all the others- now we have to READ who has replied to a thread AND we are starved of Q8's constantly changing stock ;D Are we to hope that this is 'just a temporary problem with the new system' and will 'all be sorted in a few days'

It's Ok. i didn't mind the last one, although the features are welcome. However, I like phBB. The quality of this site is such that the forum package is unimportant - it is the people that count!!
