Why is it that on weekends the SSL ticket hall at KX seems to be so underused? The original ticket hall near the tube lines is regularly rammed with huge lines for the ticket windows and machines, yet the new western ticket hall at the SSL entrance hardly seems used in comparison!
Will the new hall only come into its own when the direct passageways from it to the MML platforms are opened?

Maybe its a lack of signage as to its prescence? Have not been there for around two weeks, so cannot see for myself, as to what it is actually like!

Will the new hall only come into its own when the direct passageways from it to the MML platforms are opened? That hall was designed with a direct access from St. Pancras in mind. Since that's not open yet it's definitely too big now. I'm sure it won't be in a years time though. By then every station will have 'its own' Underground ticket hall: King's Cross -> Tube ticket hall St. Pancras -> SSL ticket hall Midland Road -> New northern ticket hall www.alwaystouchout.com/project/47

I'm pretty impressed with the new setup at King's Cross St. Pancras. It allows direct interchange to the Thameslink (now FCC) services and all Underground lines behind the barriers. Before, I had to go through two sets of UTS gates to get from the Northern / Piccadilly / Victoria lines to the SSL platforms. This seems to have relieved congestion as people don't have to keep stopping to get their tickets out, especially when they have lugguage.

The only problem now is that any heavy flow to and from the SSL platforms has to cross the heavy flows to and from the escalators, guaranteeing a traffic jam in peak hours.
It's a shame that a low-level passageway between the mid-level concourses and the SSL platforms couldn't be opened; that would have made things much easier.

A little off topic but a busy station like KX could do with three standard ticket machines rather than the current two. Would make life much easier when topping up my Oyster!
The SSL ticket office is undersued maybe because people would only go there to catch the SSL trains. The frequency of SSL trains are the equivalent of one line while we have three deep lines. Of course there will be more pax for the deep lines thus more congestion for the ticket office near the escalators for the deep lines!
