I note from the TfL 2010 map the change to the name of Shepherd's Bush H&C station to Shepherd's Bush Market, which IMO is a very sensible development to reflect the distinct nature of the surrounding area and also the separateness from the Central/"London Overground" (still feels weird saying that!) station at the other end of Shepherd's Bush Green.
On the other hand, it seems that by calling the new H&C line station "Wood Lane", TfL/LU are missing a trick. In an age where connectivity is apparently all I can't help but feel that this passes up a great chance to publicly embed a new H&C/Central line interchange by referring to the new station as "White City", even if the connection 'twixt the two stations is on-street as in the case of Hammersmith (which itself surely suggests that the approach to the new station's name is inconsistent with current practice).
Any thoughts?

There used to be a station on the H&C ages ago, which mysteriously caught fire and was never re-opened... I'd often thought about Hammer; why not have a subway under the road intersections there? I'd guess the maze of services under the road would create too much hassle in being diverted...

There was a subway under Hammersmith Broadway once, but it was sealed around the time of the reconstruction of Hammersmith DR.
Personally I think the loss of the Grove Road link allowing H&C access to the LSWR route at Ravenscourt Park is a big hole in the Underground SSL network - if it were replaced you could add to the Richmond/Ealing services without increasing pressure on Earls Court; all that would be needed was a long hard study to ensure that Praed Street Junction could handle any potential increase in movements.

That would be a good idea, but isn't some kind of office development/car park in the way?

Now, if it were feasible to open a space through that building and poke a bridge deck through that didn't touch it there might be a chance. ;D

If the building is ever redveloped TfL must complusory purchase the space needed for a reconection of the link. The space above could then be built upon as another office block or whatever. It would prove easier to extend the platforms on the H&C to 8 cars then the ones on the western part of the circle, so it (in theory!) would be possible to have 8 car districts using the north circle via Shepards Bush Market, and 7 car ones via the south circle.

It won't be - it's just been refurbished by the owners and will be there for a good while yet. Any chance of a comment or two on the original subject instead? THC

Lol, fair enough Youre right that its a shame that the White City/Wood Lane interchange wont take place (or even be branded as such). I cant help but think 'so close yet so far'...literally! The central is extreamly devoid of interchanges outside of london, which is odd since a few of its stations are very close to ones of other lines where interchange would be useful.

West Rui to Ruislip is not too far, a walk along Ickenham Road then down Kings End.... Ruislip Gardens to Ruislip, again not too far, along West End Road....
Also, Stanmore - Edgware is also walkable.... tho might be better to wait for thr 142 bus...

West Ruislip to Ruislip is a bloody long way to walk - West Ruislip to Ickenham is far more achievable.

Better would be to take the 79, 186 or 340 bus from Edgware to Canons Park, or a 20 to 25 minute walk. However, Kenton and Northwick Park are close.
