What exactly was causing the chaos on Friday evening?
Travelling from Paddington to Liverpool Street I decided to use the H&C rather than the Circle and luckily I did as when I got to the H&C platforms at Paddington I caught the tail end of a message about disruption inlcuding complete suspension of the Circle Line and at least two problems on the Central. I didn't get to hear what was causing the problems though as this was drowned out by the arrival of a C stock showing Whitechapel as the destination.
When I got on the T/op anounced the destination as Aldgate (didn't think the H&Cs went there, but presumed it was going to become a Circle Line train at some point).
Between Edgware Road and Baker Street the T/op said that someone had activated the passenger alarm, that he was continuing to Baker Street where help could be given and asked that whoever activated it make themselves known to him at Baker Street.
We got to Baker Street and I saw through the crowd of pax in the car I was someone in LU uniform (either the T/op or station staff) walking up and down the train. After a couple of minutes he asked again for whoever activated the alarm to identify themselves. Several minutes later we were underway so I presume the problem was sorted.
Just as we approached Barbican the T/op made another announcement - this time appologising for the short notice but that this train would now be terminating at Moorgate and advised those travelling further to change at Barbican to avoid a long walk. Not knowing either station I did get off at Barbican but most didn't.
I finally made it to Liverpool Street thanks to a suprisingly empty Met train.
So, what was the cause of all this chaos? I know it was annouced a few times and I think I heard something about Notting Hill Gate but I didn't ever hear anyhting specific thanks to noisy trains/passengers and dodgy speakers.
