Hi all, just added a few more LT shots to my Fotopic site and as usual might need a little assistance with the captions... This one is of an A60 set entering Harrow-on-the-Hill, but does anyone know anything about the little platelayer's trolley the train is about to pass? Also as usual, the image is "clickable" to take you to a larger image with the present caption on my site. Thanks in anticipation of a knowledgeable reply from anyone who can shed some light on the vehicle in question! Cheers, Geoff

This photo at Harrow-on-the-Hill is interesting-apart from the track areas being fantastically clean, the track adjacent to the train (nearer the camera) is road 2 and is now no longer electrified. At this time there was a regular rusty rail reversing move via a crossover beyond the bridge which has now been removed.
Hopefully this is some help to you Geoff-great photos by the way!

It was crossover 94. I remember at the start of the 1972 Metroland programme the yard at Harrow had been removed but some of the entrance turnouts were still in place (disused of course!) So I guess around 1970ish was when the area was rationalised. This included no doubt, Moor Park x-over, Pinner points, bits of Northwood yard, Croxley yard and Amersham.

Interesting. I don't suppose you know when and why the embankment between platform 1 at harrow and west harrow was removed?

dampflok, your photos are superb. They bring back all sorts of memories. I could tell a tale about almost every picture on your LT section. The one of Lillie Bridge showing the Goliath Crane reminds me of a certain gentleman who managed to derail it by rough shunting some wagons which derailed and then hit it. There was also a foreman there who always had an excellent selection of biscuits and cakes in his locker. Lillie Bridge had the railway stores there too!

Interesting. I don't suppose you know when and why the embankment between platform 1 at harrow and west harrow was removed? There was a discussion of that here. I believe the High Level Line was removed in 1967.

Ah fair enough, thanks for that! Presumably it was latterly used by the A stock? Just to echo the other comments though, the pictures are superb, and really are an interesting view of the system past.

Cheers, Geoff This train appears to be unit 5138-6138-6139-5139 an A62 unit (you can just see the compressors on the first trailer). This unit is still running on the mainline as an A end unit

Thanks gents for your comments on the photo and further information. I'll update the caption to read A62 set. Anyone any clues about the trolley?
Cheers, Geoff
