On the way home tonight I was greeted with T425 arrive at Harrow platform 3[?] due to tip out! It had either come from Moorgate or Baker Street and when I asked the T/op where it was going he said Watford road 25! I didn't know about this service, how long has this been going on for? Why doesn't it stable at Ricky? And more importantly-why can't it run to Northwood and empty?

strange, watford doesn't have a 25 rd and 425 would've been a uxbridge number

Yes 425 is an Uxbridge number. It must have come from Uxbridge gone to Baker Street and then northbound to Harrow! From what I remember, Watford has 2 roads, one either side of the platform roads. Unless 25 road is included in Rickmansworth's lot (but does Ricky have 23 roads?).

There was at least one siding to the right of the Watford platforms years ago, hence its use on a Sarah Siddons tour (for the loco to run round its train) before they stuck a loco on the other end. Uxbridge Sidings had the same facility. Solidbond has this photo from the about that period: mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/LUArchive/html/d78_metroliner_tour_8.htmlIn the tour photos you may see me!

Ricky has 23 sidings on the down side, south of the station, 21 or 'North' sidings on the up side, north of the station then 31 to 35 roads (the south sidings) on the up side, south of the station.
25 road, I believe is the shunt neck to 31-35 roads, nothing actually stables there
Watford has 21 and 24 roads, one of which accomodates 2 trains (cant remember which)
I think that's all correct, but as a disclaimer it's off the top of my head as I've nothing to refer to at present!

Maybe this train is now stabling at Watford because of works at Neasden? Shame the train can't detrain at Northwood rather than Harrow! I know there are no platform staff-but there weren't any helping at Harrow either!!

25rd at Ricky has been used to stable a train when the stock's out of position due to disruption.

Yes 425 is an Uxbridge number. It must have come from Uxbridge gone to Baker Street and then northbound to Harrow! It does exactly that. The WTT says 425 stables in 24rd at Watford. I expect the T/O made a mistake in the road number. There's likely to be more changes to stabling arrangements as Neasden gets to look more like a builder's yard. Of the existing buildings, only the steam shed and long shed will survive. There will be a new lifting shop and a new maintenance shed.

Watford has 21 and 24 roads, one of which accomodates 2 trains (cant remember which) 24 rd at Watford can take 2 trains. And the signalling is such that the rear train can be signalled out leaving the front train in position....something which was explained to me when I trained in the cabin at Ricky but only once had occasion to do....when I was up to my ears in a points failure at Rickmansworth and everything was going to Watford. I wondered what would happen but it worked fine!!!

The Watford Service packed up yesterday afternoon and a Baker St-Ricky Local service was run. I had to wait 25 mins for a train!

yes it wasn't too great while i was on i was alternating trains between ricky via the local or uxbridge, fortunatly the timings worked out good and trains were returning in thier correct paths on the south and when we had watford back we were able to run there right away

The WTT says 425 stables in 24rd at Watford. I expect the T/O made a mistake in the road number. It does indeed. I even put the train onto 24 road as i was nights! They used to get the train to tip out at Croxley and then stable at Watford, but it was too much trouble....apparently! On a sunday night the train does actually go to watford, then does the main line shunt at JP118. The reason there is no need to do this during the week is because it follows the bottom of the Watford in front and then three trains behind is the last Watford (if i recall)

Things must be going on. T450 a Baker St. - Harrow service tipped out on platform 3 at about 0018 this evening and ran empty Northbound onto the joint line. Does this train stable at Watford too? I was pi$$ed off because all trains were running on time/early except my last Watford! If only I had managed to get a lift to Northwood!
Interestingly, T416 a Baker St - Harrow service (that reverses at Rayners Lane) didn't use the reversing siding at Harrow! Is there a problem at Harrow (I did see a train reverse there at about 9pm) or are they short of space at Neasden and T416 actually ran empty to Uxbridge not Rayners?

It even runs in exactly the same timings. You've lost me with this one. Surely if the train is meant to reverse at Rayners Lane (for Rusty Rail purposes) it won't use the siding at Harrow.

If 450 isn't going to use the siding, 416 might as well instead! How often does the west end x-over at Rayners need to be used? I've seen 416 reverse at Harrow loads of times when 450 has cleared the siding early!
Its a pain that 450 has to tip out at Harrow-shame it can't run in service to Northwood!

Sounds about right! Shame T450/425 can't empty out at Northwood! It's not like any platform staff help to detrain at Harrow plat 3/4 now!

I should think the same problem as anywhere else that is on reduced manning at that the of night. If a punter won't get off you can at least work round at Harrow while the BTP are on the way. But then there is a Watford 4 mins before on Mon - Sat, and then the last one 13 mins behind. Not too bad a service!
