Sorry, but I dont think you will be driving them. You have to join LU first, and the Met is popular [for obvious reasons]. Never say never though, best of luck.
No offence mate, but any chance you could use the spell checker facility before posting your messages?

How long left in service? Given the fact that the S stock is scheduled to come into service around 2012... I think you have at least 4 years left of A's... I'm off out getting some sound recordings in the near future... So, I will sit myself above the compressors and the PCM...

Well, if it's scheduled to come in in 2012, that's 4.5 years, and let's imagine it takes what 2 years to deliver and get rid of all the A stock? Then another 2-3 years to account for running late.

A stocks WILL see thier 50th, undoubtedly...
I foresee a mass frenzy of souvenir hunters when they get withdrawn... as did the 59's... after all but five trains had gone to the scrapyard!

Is there any chance one or two might be kept by LUL? Or any plans for preservation?

Hard to say really... I'd like to see one complete 8 car saved, if not a 4 car at the very least... However, the LT Museum at Acton are already pushed for space.

I suspect that any preservation efforts will be from the private sector - Cravens Heritage Trains may splurge for one or two units, for example.

I've heard it's dead man's shoes to get on the Met. Any truth to that? Used to be. I waited three years to get to Neasden, not much of a list now, still a list for Ricky though.

Their is a lot senior drivers ready for putting out to pasture in the next few years and the list will go right down.

Met. Rly.Line of Promotion.
Mark Ghurkin (?) at Neasden South the last signalman to appear on the Met. line of promotion in 1933 told me the order for seniority for Met. signalmen and train crews was- East London, GN&City, Circle & H&C, and then the Main Line. Train crews finished up at Neasden and Signalmen in the higher classified boxes.
Even in those days it was a case of waiting for dead men to go !

I'm not so sure that Upminster's list will get small anytime soon - it is currently running at +40!! I'm also told that anyone putting in for Barking (District) will be looking at a wait of at around 11 years now There will also be the 'East London line effect' - once the East London line closes in December, all of their drivers will go to their depot of choice....................but they will still show on waiting lists until their place becomes available as per their position on said waiting lists. I believe they will be placed on special rota's at their depot, and will essentially be extra pool drivers. Personally, I wouldn't fancy going onto a waiting list now - I'm just extremely grateful that Upminster came up for me when it did.

Personally, I wouldn't fancy going onto a waiting list now - I'm just extremely grateful that Upminster came up for me when it did. These lists are misleading. When I put in for Neasden I was 83 on the list and it took me 3 years to get there, when I put in for Upminster I was 24 and it took me 2 years to get there. I can name several people expected to go for promotion and retirement within the next year or so, 2 drivers from Upminster went out as controller within the last 6 months. Many names on these lists either change their minds and pull out or go for promotion themselves, I can't see anyone on these lists waiting 11 years, we were given similar scares of people waiting on lists for many years due to the Guards getting back to their nominated depots when OPO first came in. I don't think "The East London effect will add many to the Upminster list as most East London drivers live in South East London or Kent, I'm guessing most will aim for either North Greenwich or the Elephant with possibly a couple going to Barking.

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

How long left in service? Given the fact that the S stock is scheduled to come into service around 2012... I think you have at least 4 years left of A's... 'A' Stock will start to disappear in 2010 and will be gone by 2012 in the current plans. The first 'S' Stock will start testing on the Met in 2008/2009 and the first one will enter passenger service in November 2009. Once the number of 'S' Stocks delivered reachs train 12 we will then have no choice but to start scrapping the 'A' as we will have run out of stabling space. Sorry for the late entry, I have been on annual leave.
