don't know for sure - but from Northwood down to Pinner on the fast i've seen them "off the clock" , if you know what i mean , and also from Willlesden to Neasden. As far as on the flat is concerned , i've only seen about 50 mph , but that is between stations - so you don't really get a chance for them to really get going.

Mate of mine claimed to have one off the clock on an Ammy Fast many moons ago...

Hasn't this been discussed many many times before on this forum? The search function is always good, as is the spell check!

Amersham to Ricky SB is another stretch where it soon picks up!

The driver of the Uxbridge Centenarian 38ts tour back in 2004, told me that around 20 years ago, they did a proformance test on the A stock, and put lots of lead inside. Any way he got the train up to 90mph on the down grade from the Chilterns down into London. At steam on the met 1999, there were different stocks on display at ricky sidings. The driver in the A stock train (He was quite old and must have been close to retirement) said that when the stock was new, he got one up to a ton between Willlesden and Neasden. The A stock are now limited to 50mph due to the condition of track/infrastructure, ride quality, and the fact that they are now very close to 50 years old. So once again see below ;D

So once again see below ;D The A stock are restricted not due to the track, the problem is the bogies, they are cracking due to their age. Chiltern trains still do 70mph on the Met line.

Where? I thought the line speed was 60 throughout, even on the short segment between Amersham and Mantles Wood.

S stock will be limited to 60mph. It will get there much quicker than A stock once A stock is replaced, but there will be an absolute limit of 60 with the new ATO/ATP

Could I ask how has the speed limit varied over time? I think I've managed to read the various threads on this subject but am having trouble putting it together into a coherent picture.
Is it as simple as saying that the line speed was historically 70mph then dropped to 60mph. And now the A-stock are limited to 50mph? Would anyone be able to put dates to the changes?

It has been four years since I defected from the Met to District, the line speed has been droped within that time. The A60s maximum speed was dropped from 60mph to 50mph from about 1997 when it was discovered the bogies were cracking.
