That A stock held up well!! Properly built trains they are. If its just an M door and some windows I doubt that it will be out of traffic for long.

Thaught it may have been the staff having a joke By the sound of it coming into the station (I was in the first car) and my video leving, apart from the wood being draged by the undercarage of the train it souded a little more tecnical.

Looking at the size of the branches being dragged it's lucky the train didn't derail. What a nasty scare for the t/op.

I was listening to that kicking off on the train radio. It sounded rather nasty as those pictures confirmed. However i would say if you are in that sort of situation at that time again, i would keep right out of the way and let the staff get on and sort the problem out rather than pestering them for pictures as i can assure you they had better things to do with their time.

It was one of them that offered to take the picture of the front of the train and I said "yes please, could you?", not pestering- it wasn't like I was the only one taking photos eather.

For that to happen you were obviously lingering around the front of the train, another thing you shouldnt have done at that time or place.

For goodness sake, MSO, stop trying to have a go at poor Gavelex. If the station staff were happy for him to be there I hardly think it's your business to tell them their jobs..........

I was listening to that kicking off on the train radio.....as i can assure you they had better things to do with their time. Judging by the time you appear to have had listening to the train radio, you clearly didn't have anything better to do. Agree with Phil above. Gavelex already pointed out quite clearly that no trespass occured. As he was presumably stood on the platform with a valid ticket, and had not been asked to leave, where is the problem. Gavelex, you may be interested to know that the picture of the train front has been printed off by one of my colleagues and is now displayed in our area for "Interesting and Historical Pictures." within the control room ;D

A few years ago I was at Roding Valley on a windy day, and a very bushy tree 'branch' fell on the track just on the approach to the Woodford-bound platform. When the train finally came, it stopped short of the branch for a few minutes, the driver opened his door and studied it before proceeding.
It looked like a gamble and there was the sound of cracking wood and bits of folliage got dragged along towards Woodford.
What happens if a driver comes across a tree branch? As in this case, can they use their judgement as to whether to ride over it? Or, by the book, should any obstruction always be removed? Assuming the driver has a view of the tree branch and can stop in time, which obviously wasn't the case this morning.

Any obstruction laying across the running lines would have to be removed. An obstruction laying in the 4' is down to the Train Operator or the Line Controllers decision, the questions being asked are "Do you think you would be front or rear tripped?". If yes to either question then the obstruction may as well be removed as you would have the delay with the tripping anyway.
