Sorry to revive this after over a month, but a very interesting accident report has now been made available at the Railways Archive: www.railwaysarchive.co.uk/docSummary.php?docID=1189It relates to a collision between an LMS freight train and an LNER passenger train at the Widened Lines junction at Kings Cross, in July 1932. Given the previous discussion about tripcocks, it is noteworthy that the report states that the LMS loco was not tripcock fitted, but makes no criticism of this. It's also interesting to note that on the day prior to the accident 332 trains passed over that part of the Widened Lines, all steam-hauled except for 6 (the Up Widened Line being electrified to Moorgate at that time).

All's quiet... A bit sad seeing her just sit there in the depot really. She's starting to really rust away on the inside too.

Another trip on the Met is pencilled in for 7th December. This trip has been requested to convey Peter Hendy and others who were unable to be present at the re-inauguration earlier in the year

Damn, I have to be in London on the 8th. Isn't that just typical.

So can people actually ride on this train? Is it a steam train?

Was she out and about today? Also, I heard that LT12 can run off 3rd rail using 750vDC, how does that work?

I asked years ago about this conversion: it was also done with the Standard Stock Track Recording Train that was "lent" to BR (towed to Wimbledon initially to gain the third rail). I was told that it was relatively simple to do and involved moving the negative cabling to connect to the rail wheels to provide the earth return. Whether it is true or not I have no idea but it sounded plausible.

How is the Earth strap connected to the wheels on 3rd rail trains. Is it via sliprings on the axle or is it just bonded to the bogie frames.

Nice photos. Looks like it's had a repaint into an earlier livery - Metropolitan crests instead of "London Transport".
