What precisely was the cause of the gymkhana on the Met today? At first the PAs were parroting "lack of available trains", then they changed to "industrial action by train contractors", and then it changed again to "staff shortage"!
Either way, services were pretty badly delayed, with most of the Mets in the morning going round at Baker Street and only being extended to Aldgate later in the day.

Yeah, good question! There wasn't a lick of engineering works planned today, so it's not like there are trains trapped away from Neasden that got splattered with graffiti!

Quoted from an earlier discussion with a colleague:-
Metromess had 14 cancelled as they couldnt be prepped, coz they werent paying the overtime and wont recruit new staff as they cost too much. Then we had no drivers (this was nicely covered up earlier by the lack of trains) And now they've run out of trains.

The UXB branch was suspended from SOT for about 45 minutes. Strange, as this is the busiest branch..............or so I thought.

Yeah, but it has the Piccadilly Line to serve it - despite the fact that the Picc would be rammed due to the Earl's Court-Whitechapel closure.
I would have expected the Watford service to be thinned out instead...

Hence references to No ok stock!

At midday, Metronet had some stock available but LU had no operators ..... then about three train went out of service because of defects and were left cancelled by Metronet. Sunday morning is likely to be the same, with probably Baker Street-Aldgate being suspended until lunchtime, when more rolling stock is available. As for Monday morning when even more trains are needed..........

It would be quite interesting to see how much Metronet will be fined for this The circle I got from GPS - KXSP in the evening was pretty rammed... it was almost as bad as a weekday peak plus I was really hoping that it would be an A stock

I reckon just a couple of of grand..... Probably less than paying the overtime

if that is the case the obviously take no pride whatsoever in what they do! Provide a poor service costs the same as having a good service... which do they choose?

It will actually be cheaper to run a poor service, as it requires less of managers' time to do a half-arsed job than to do a good job.

Apparrently , the depot staff at Neasden are working to rule over some dispute , so no-one is doing any overtime , and with no-one doing overtime they haven't got the staff. Looks like its going to be the same tomorrow , with more trains becoming available as the day progresses.

And rather more annoying is that it is believed that Metronet were aware of the shortage in the day on Friday, but neglected to tell London Underground until late in the night

I'd have thought it would be a contractual responsibility to inform LU of possible problems with the supply of trains as soon as they are aware of it.

The reason for the delays message was due to Metronet unable to offer rolling stock for two trains, one cancelled (as Ben says) because of vandalism, one defective and some cancelled from the City due to No Train Operators!
