Having work to do on the Met line for today and Thursday, I was very impressed travelling from Aldgate to Uxbridge. I found the drivers friendly and the line very different from the Central line to what I've been used to for many long years.
This Thursday, its a trip to Amersham, Chesham and Watford - places I've never been before in all my working life on LUL. Hoping soon, I can return to normal duties on the Central, but its certainly an eye opener to see how other lines operate.

Its very easy to get comfortable working on a particular line. Always feel great when I get back on the good ole Northern when travelling on another line. The met's great though, especially Chesham branch.

I found the drivers friendly and the line very different from the Central line to what I've been used to for many long years. Well, for a start, the Met is a railway, whereas the Central resembles more or a miniture train set. The drivers on the Met actually drive the trains (well most do) but on the Central, the model railway analogy continues - they appear to be there just for show ;D Sorry, I could go on (as I have in the past) but will leave it there. Yes, there are huge differences between the two lines. Geography, rolling stock, operating practices and the way the service is run are just the start.

A pity the Met is planned to go ATO eventually. It will deffinately take a lot of the spirit out of it.

By the time that even gets close, most of the spirit will have been lost naturally just as it has across the network (and I'm not referring to any drink and drug rules.)
By the time it gets close, I will probably be pottering around a garden in my slippers - whether intentional or simply as a result of losing my marbles - or maybe even pushing up daisies ;D

I couldn't resist taking a photo of the outside of Chesham and Amersham stations yesterday. First time I've travelled to that part of the underground - its a different world up there and what a fantastic view on the Chesham line, reminding me of the Cornish valleys.
Enjoyed fish & chips at Amersham (meal break) which seems a very nice town, but too hot to venture further up the hill.

Sounds like you're having fun Rob. I'm jealous anyway, the Met's my favourite line even though I ain't been there. Just as a matter of interest, what are you doing on the Met?

Excellent. There's nothing I would enjoy more than being sent back there on my money AND inheriting "the slippers."
But then, as slippers go, when we get the new carpet at Baker Street which I have campaigned for, we are planning to have a personalised issue of said footwear - with some spares for visitors.
That would mean that with the exception of brandy and cigars (for obvious H&S reasons) we would have a much improved environment in which to relax work ;D

I might join the retirement saga soon. I've got my slippers and an old pipe somewhere - not forgetting my Beatles records to listen to when relaxing. (not Doris Day)
