Leaving Preston Road SB on the Met today I noticed a lovely line of lights leaving me to the left hand side heading towards the NB Jubilee line I think. Was this the location of a old crossover from the Met branch to Stanmore?
It did look rather odd but quaint, a set of lights to illuminate the long summer grass.

It was probably just fairies in the grass Correct. Or to give them their proper title, Jubilee Line Management Spy Fairies. They often sit and spy on the real railway, trying to work out how it's done.

And get no clue due to part suspension of the Met between Baker St and Aldgate...

Except of course, sitting at Wembley they would still see Met trains passing them. Add to this that my remark was banter of a kind that staff on all lines exchange on a regular basis. Little is actually meant of it. The Jubilee is for example a tube line and is run completely differently to a sub-surface line such as the Met.
I get the distinct feeling, marty, that you and a few others appear to be trying to bash the railway at any given point. Your signature does the District no favours.
It's always healthy to have good discussion of all areas. However since my return I have lost count of the posts I have noticed which don't exactly give the railway a chance. The posts concerned may have been more at home on the Evening Standard fourm.
We can all have digs, but let's not let it get to the point where it's the norm.

Railway Bashing -
Passengers and papers delight in finding fault with the 'Railways' and indeed any Transport System or Public service. You need to have worked on the job to understand what could have happened.

I'm with Citysig on this one. Railwayman do tend to 'take the mick' out of each other all the time - it's part of the culture. Drivers have a dig at the signalman, signalman give it back to the drivers, then the depot staff get a good going over too but it's our way. Oh, and everyone bashes management! What you need to remember is that we are professionals doing a professional job of moving over three million people safely every day. We do not take it lightly and we take exception when unfair criticism is levelled against us. At the end of the day, we welcome anyones comments about the way we do our jobs -provided it is raised in a constructive fashion. We know we don't always get it right and a healthy debate about that has got to be a good thing. Personally though, I don't understand why members of this forum would want to constantly bash the network and it's staff (dodgy signatures included!). After all aren't we here because we have an interest in it? Soap box anyone?

Yes support those comments. Healthy banter should be encouraged. Like Prjb said, we are responsible for the safe conveyance [ swallowed a thesaurus] of three million customers daily and despite my posts!!!, I take my job very seriously. Its when talking to other staff, both at work in the mess room and on this forum that we can fully relax, as obviously in the course of our duties, safety comes first and banter second. We all have things we dont like about the tube, but again as touched upon in earlier posts lets do it constructively and not as an excuse to bash the system. As for signatures, its purely a personal thing, I actually quite like Marty's signature, there is a slight grain of truth to it!!. I am going back to my original signature, Nq7, the mill hill starter. ;D

You've persuaded me to go back and change my location to its original. I'm no longer with Zippy & George!
Theres a sign at Bounds Green on the south just beside the platform end barrier that says Do not put any liquid down this drain, because it is blocked. There is a job out on it!
Been there for about 9 months now!

Some of the above, particularly prjb's post, has summed-up what I wanted to say a little better than I could have done.
Some of the above also gives good justification for the banter and signatures.
However, whatever we the members air on this forum, for whatever reasons, we should remember that it is now quite a fairly well-known place.
People will visit here as guests to quietly view the information at hand. Hopefully, the majority of these people will have an interest in railways and their operation.
However, my concern would be the silent visit by some journalist, who on seeing certain messages, may be lead to believe that "If the enthusiasts and staff have lost all hope, what hope do my readers have..."
I think with the message given in this thread and others, everyone more or less knows what everyone else thinks on this so we can probably leave it there....?

Glad that's sorted then. But I am still trying to work out which of the posters gets the prize for taking a thread further off topic than ever before........
