What destinations can the lightbox on platform 1 at Harrow show? I know it can show all of the Met destinations (Rickmansworth, Amersham, Chesham and Aylesbury) but what did it show when the steam trains were running onto the GCML?

The answer to your question is Rickmansworth, Amersham Chesham, Aylesbury and Uxbridge.

Thanks Harsig. I suppose then that it was installed after through services to the GC main line ceased, right? Or did the T/D merely show the Aylesbury destination for all such trains?

Well when I worked as Box Boy at Harrow-on-the-Hill Signal Box in 1963/64, the trains past Aylesbury had the T/D code LMR 1, there was a light box on platform 1, but I can not remember what was on the platform sign. Only 2 or 3 trains a day went past Aylesbury to Nottingham GC, the London Midland Region had no intrest in the line and services were being run down to drive passengers away so that the line could be closed.

Interesting. True, but the signalling and T/D at Harrow was installed in 1959 and 1960, during the start of the decline of the GCML - the Aylesbury-Rugby services were withdrawn in 1966, IIRC.

The LM1 description then as now shows nothing at all down on the platform. LM2 shows Aylesbury on the platform.
