somerhimpson you become no problems with this! you have luck that you not live in Germany - i have no Job! and if you should get sometime problems, then I accuse German railways!
But have you read about the Strike last Year? The Drain-Drivers have to need more Money - and the DB buy other Company's!
I come from Worms - the oldest City in Germany - have you see the Railway Station? i think no! on the Stationplatforms - the DB have dismantled the Roof (for a long long time ago!) but the DB is very slow and the Spokesman say "we make a new roof for the Platform" - and this every year!
My dream is when a British Company buy the DB - and i can now better sleep!!!
greetings
Dennis

in britain we have private railways and this is mostly a bad thing. in my trade union magazine i think i read about unhappy workers in germany and maybe them going on strike, it sounds bad there

Ah yes, a nice small section in the aforementioned "trade union magazine" reads: "Germany Strikes Suspended During Talks". *Puts magazine back in waste basket* ;D It does sound quite bad. I wouldn't like to be working there, and thanks to the US economy weakening, I very much doubt it will be solved any time soon sadly! I agree with you about buying other company's Aldwych. If I was told I couldn't have a pay rise for making money so the company could go and spend more, I'd be pretty pee'd off to!

Don't know about you, but if I were a unionised rail worker I'd rather work for a majority-state-owned rail company than a private equity fund (Chiltern's previous owner). But that isn't how it works - the money to pay for Laing Rail is borrowed based on the profits DB expects to make out of Laing Rail; it's got nothing to do with whether or not DB pays German train operators more euros... BTW, DB resolved the driver's strike by giving them an 8% pay rise. That doesn't sound like a terrible outcome to me.

Chiltern are always on time because they have there own tracks to run on, if you know what I mean? No interference from freight etc.. Lucky so & so's ;-)

Chiltern do share tracks with freight... certainly north of Banbury (and I'd imagine south of it as well, but maybe not so much in passenger hours). They do run a pretty tight ship, I think the biggest bonus is the spare capacity the line had on privatisation. Obviously it's working as it is though, so I hope the new owners let the management team get on with it...

They share tracks with lots of things north of Banbury, including the half-hourly CrossCountry through Oxford, and those are hardly known for good timekeeping. Lots of freight goes that way as well.
There are few freight trains on their own mainline - rubbish from London to Calvert via Aylesbury, and a couple of years ago huge amounts of earth for the notorious Tesco in High Wycombe was delivered by rail. I think all are in the daytime too.

Chiltern are an excellent company but as has been said they were lucky. At the time of privatisation the line was in good condition with spare capacity and had just recieved a batch of new networker turbo trains!
I also hope the Germans let them get on with it too. I think they still need more trains especially in the rush hours and I really hope they don't change the colour scheme!

Picture of the Holy Mehdorn! the Chief of the Mehdorntology - but the Members of this Church are only Germans, no other People of the World like this priest ääh chief! --------------------- But the DEUTSCHE BAHN are now SCRAPPING complete Locos here are Class 143 Note the overpainted Loconumbers under the DB Sign - 11 of the Locos are "ready for Scrap" - but the Locos are not wrecked! My fear - the DB like to scrap British Trains! Greetings Dennis

paint out - for the Train-Fans! -> one of the nonsense from the DB the Scrapdealer is secured (better as Fort Knox!) - when jou going to the Locos, you risk a meeting with the Police! the Man with the Brush are not good - i can read the Numbers! (see Pictures below!) img500.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bender07jan0614jz.jpgimg500.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bender07jan0614041104go.jpgBut the Deutsche Bahn´s Scrapping Hobby - one of the Famous Locos are the Class 141 Heritageloco -> scrapped by fun! www.bilder-hosting.de/show/5LHS0.htmlbut this is not the only Heritage Loco img277.imageshack.us/img277/6708/pict2168ct6.jpghere are the Remains of the Class 430 - scrapped directly at the DB-Museum Koblenz-Lützel that are my Fear - the DB scrapped without "Brain" - and some Locos are lost - forever -> need Example: DB Class 210 (Gasturbine Loco), the Class 110 with the Numbers 110 299 and 110 300 (one of the first High Speed Electric-Locos in Germany) and the Class 103 118. the Last Class 627 is burned at the Nurnberg Disaster - the other are Scrapped or sold to Poland! DB - what a wonderful (Disaster) - a Railway with a lost Culture - a Self -Destroyed Culture! Greetings Dennis

yes, the last remain Driving Motor Car have secured - but a Half Train (OK - London Underground have make the same error -> Half 1983 and 1986 Tube Stock) - but the DB have stored the Train for a long time outside, and the rust comes, a long long destroy!
But DB have buy EWS, and Chiltern Railways / 50% of London Overground and 50% of Wrexham and Shropshire Railways - i see smile Mehdorn when the Guy put some Locos on the Scrap!
Another: all of the Newest Locos on Private Railway Museum are only Loan (Class 103 or other!) - no former DB AG Loco have sold to Preservation -> a Insider say (not 100& correct) - it´s better when the Loco are end in the Scrapyard!
Greetings
Dennis
