It appears the row of shops from the bridge over the canal to the NLL railway bridge, have been badly affected.

Kentish Town West was only burnt down a few years ago... I wonder if TfL/Camden Council will find this an opportunity to redevelop Camden Town Station. Personally it would be sad to see the Electric Ballroom knocked down as TFL have proposed to do so. I've some good and not so good memories of the place.

I'm sure the truth will come out in the investigation by the fire service.

Wasn't there a derelict pier somewhere that was proving a headache for a local council? It springs to mind because I seem to remember that too was conveniently burnt to a cinder.

A bit like the Grade II listed pub in Armthorpe which Netto wanted to knock down; permission denied; how convenient it went up in flames the next day...!

Which one? There have been a few. If this is arson, whoever did it needs to be found and have their fingers put in a vice. Just like a furniture shop in Canterbury, that mysteriously caught fire, rather conveniently as the manager popped out for lunch... Yes. very convenient, considering the chain went bust less than a month later!
Four shops, plus a few market stalls, I will no longer be able to part with my money in... There is a rescue package being started, I shall contribute to it.

There is a rescue package being started, I shall contribute to it. Wouldn't mind knowing about that. May be a strapped stoodent, but can always find *something*.

It's being discussed by the Camden Council... strangely, the company in charge of the markets, remains defiantly silent on the issue...

A bit like the Grade II listed pub in Armthorpe which Netto wanted to knock down; permission denied; how convenient it went up in flames the next day...! And the Regent Hotel in Leamington Spa. Empty for ages, developers wanted to build a shopping centre but there was a local campaign to save the hotel as it was so old. Then the empty building caught fire all by itself...

I've heard several times now that it was started by the Scientologists to detract attention away from the anti-scientology protest.
however, that's only speculation.

The only thing I've seen is that "several people, on condition of anonymity, have told the BBC who they believe started the fire, and the same name has been given every time". I saw this in the comments of one of the flikr photos about the fire, and so is hearsay several times over!
