You may have seen the TV adverts for Asda claiming they are cheaper than Tesco's. Well if you go to the price checker website Asda use www.mysupermarket.co.uk you can enter your last shopping trip and see who would be cheapest. I know it's a bit tedious, but can save you some £££'s. BTW on my last shopping trip - Tesco were cheaper than Asda by about £8 and Asda & Sainsburys were virtually the same price. Oh and if the missus wanted to go to Waitrose, it'd cost an extra £35 Anyway, if you have the time, give it a go.

Oh and if the missus wanted to go to Waitrose, it'd cost an extra £35 Not out in the sticks!!!! Waitrose locally matches Tesco and Sainsbury's to the penny, and their own brand stuff is streets ahead. And the aisles are wide enough!! Do I shop there? NO - I go to Sainsbury's because the local Waitrose keeps running out of standard Brown bread, Heinz ketchup and stuff you really expect them to have enough of. Otherwise it's a much better experience all round. Shame.

I find Asda beats Tesco, Co-Op, Sainsbury's & Morrisons round my way (though Morrisons does come a close second) - they do seem to price things locally, bit like petrol, so I spose it depends where you live really.

I tried to repeat today's shop at Sainsbury's in the mysupermarket website, and it was the cheapest. Not surprising really, as we usually alternate between them and Tesco (and occassionally Morrison's or Waitrose), buy whatever's on offer (within reason) and then hoarde for 6 months. So the specific basket that we did would be cheapest at the shop offering those offers, in other words, Sainsbury's this week.
So, Sainsbury's came in at £47.04, Tesco at £53.56, Asda at £54.55 and Ocado at £68.43.

Where I live, Teso is quite a hike. Sainsburys is possibly the closest, but seems very expensive to me. Asda is the most covenient via car or public transport, and also I find everything as opposed to running up and down endless aisles in the other supermarkets because it just isn't laid out in any order.
We tend to go for the cheap options on almost everything, and Asda easily beats the others. If you add on petrol or busfare, it comes out even better.
I am debating the home delivery service, but after a terrible experience with Tesco, I'll be looking for advice as to who scores best.

^ Indeed, it's all well Sainsburys being cheaper, but it's a pain in the **** for me to get to Sainsburys (ignoring the 'convenience' one in the town centre) - I'd have to go into town then out to Edenthorpe. Rather than Tesco where I just need to go into town, or Asda where I need to go halfway into town.

Rather than Tesco where I just need to go into town, or Asda where I need to go halfway into town. Yep it's similar for me, living north of Linooln then Lincoln Wragby Road Tesco is the closest supermarket for me and definitely the most convenient being on the edge of the urban sprawl. Morrisons is not too bad in the heart of the city where B+Q, PC World, Curry's, Comet etc are located but Asda is too far away and Sainsburys is even further both on the wrong side of town. I go into town no more than once a week on average and do all my business and shopping in one hit as it's a 20 mile round trip in the car and not viable by the almost non-existent public transport even if I walk to the village half a mile away. At present I have been using up all the tinned, dried and frozen foods that filled my cupboards and freezers from last years special offers so I haven't shopped for almost a month and when I go shopping sometime in the coming week I expect to get a shock as the trend seems to be upward for bread, milk and other staples just as it has been for petrol and heating oil. I bet my TfL pension won't rise enough to cover the true increases in the cost of living over the last few months. Of course having two freezers helps and keeps motoring costs to a minimum, I've done only about 3050 miles in the car since I bought it in October 2006!

I thought I was the only one from these parts! I'm down in The Boultham Park area, hense Sainsburys being so close. Asda is reachable for you via the bypass, but would be a long trek! For me, it's a 5 minute drive, or a hop on the 27 bus. I have to say that the Tesco you refer to on Wragby Road is a good one, far better than the one near Pelham Bridge! *EDIT* There was a debate about the heating oil price on Radio Lincolnshire on Thursday. You lot without mains gas are being treated to nothing short of daylight robbery!

Of course having two freezers helps and keeps motoring costs to a minimum....... So you put the engine oil and screenwash fluid in the freezer too?? Or the cheap petrol as well??
