Thanks Colin, sorry about the photo size, didnt realise the file was so large. I'm sure whatever happens we will have fun on Friday and of course we will have the added advantage of "Pudsey Power". If any drivers see us approaching their train please hold the doors for a few extra seconds, and once we are onboard please don't spare the horses All the best, Antony

Hi all, well seven hours to go before I have to get up at 03:30 and drive up to Chesham. The forecast is set to be very chilly so the first few runs will be rather bracing. Our first external run is 1.2km from North Harrow to Rayners Lane at 06:10 We have increased our target to £1000 as we managed to get through £750 barrier earlier today. If anyone would like to sponsor us it is: www.justgiving.com/tubechallenge07All the best Antony

Time was Soupie (and best wishes by the way) when you had to get to Ongar for around 0530 at least (and dodging the scorpions) ....and then end up at Upminster in the early hours. And try and get home from there!

Thanks for Oracle. Yes I know that the challenge used to be much longer (and go all the way to Ongar!) I finally got home at around 02:30am this morning. We started as planned at 05:19 from Chesham to Watford, and from there it all went downhill The 05:53 from Watford left one minute late and got held outside of Croxley (dont know why) we were scheduled to arrive at North Harrow at 06:10 but did not arrive until 06:15, and according to our support team we just missed our bus to Rayners Lane. Therefore we had to do the 1.2km run in sub zero temperatures (my hands have never been so cold!) The day never really got any better and eventually we were an hour behind schedule (with only 4 hours gone). We pushed on regardless but later in the evening decided not to visit Shoreditch (by replacement bus) as this would jeapordise the rest of the route. So the final results.... we visted 274 out of 275 in a time of 19h39m20s, finishing at Amersham at 00:58, the combined total raised so far for Children in Need is over £1500Cheers Soupie

Well done ! from me too.
Thinking ahead to next year, with the ELL closed but the addition of T5, and possibly Wood Lane, does this make the task easier or harder? Does London OvergrounD stay out of the stations record equation?

I would think that with the ELL gone you could save around 40 minutes. Wood Lane will only add a minute but T5 might add a bit more. In total I reckon the new configuration could be half an hour quicker so time of sub 18 hours shouldbe possible from 2008 onwards.
As for London Overground I don't think Guinness would include this as it would actually make the challenge impossible to complete within one day.

The point is, if you will excuse me for saying so, surely there is no requirement by GWR to actually visit in a day? If GWR insist on the LO being included as well as the ELL replacement buses, then just as we did back in 1980 I think it was, we wipe the slate clean and start afresh with a new record...all-comers invited! I am sure the book at one stage had three records, and then we had "A" and "B" with one all-public transport and the other using private cars, etc. LURS decided, and agreed with Guinness Superlatives that the system had changed so much in so many years that a new record should be set by the first to achieve an all-stations as it then was. We had "lost" Watford Junction, and regained Harrow & Wealdstone, Heathrow Central was open, and the timetables had changed dramatically. The rest is history.
So, knowing full well that the book people are really not interested any more, and probably have not been for years, in the LU record, surely a decision has to be made as to whether it is to be LU-only or LU+LO, and hang the fact that it will take more than a day to achieve? As I said Guinness appointed the London Rovers to supervise the records, which was then subsumed into LURS. They then recognised and farmed-out the supervision to the LURS Roving Committee. Someon with authority should, I respectfully suggest, raise the query with the book people and if they ever deign to reply, go from there. Even if it remains LU-only, someone will shortly afterwards be brave enough to do both!
I must add here that the intrepid attempters had to start say in Ongar, though Amersham or Chesham was also used in the dim past, and then they had to pick a weekday because of Shoreditch and also a day when there was an Exhibition at Olympia...that was great fun looking at the advance dates for Olympia.

Thats what the "Tube Challenge" community thought until one month ago. If you check out the 2008 book the record is back in for the first time in about 10 years. I guess with the number of attempts in the last few years GWR have realised that the challenge is quite popular at the moment. With the current rules there is only one record to try for and that is the one using public transport, I dont know when GWR last allowed use of private vehicles? In terms of what the challenge should include, you could also make arguements for DLR & Croydon Tramlink. But personally I think it should remain just LU stations as that is one complete network. LO is a different network altogether.

I'll bet the last dual record was in the Seventies...I am sure that by 1980 it had boiled down to one. It was ridiculous to have two, and space was always a premium in the book.
