Yes! I'm wondering just how deep those shafts are... And just to add to the problems the Metro has with this, the vandals have been at the Stadium of Light station, doing their usual trade!

Northumberland Park is the newest station on the line, it only opened in December 2005. I'd have though that they'd have done surveys in the area for mineworkings when they built in.

The distances are surely too big for trams!? Newcastle-Sunderland would be the first intercity tram service in the country though

Yes - they've filled in the mine that was uncovered with 60m³ of concrete and are waiting for it to cure and looking to see if there are any others in the area. Click here for full story
