In the past few months, sections of lines are being closed for engineering work on Saturday, but not Sunday. Why is this, as surely Saturday is the busier day? In the past. the option was Sunday only, or the whole weekend. Any ideas?

Marble Arch - North Acton was closed yesterday. I too am perplexed as to why this is being done... Unless some legal quango is being brought in to say people cant work on Sunday.
It is rather weird, since Saturdays are busier, in terms of passenger usage and service frequency, than on Sundays.

I know that some of the Victoria Line closures have been based around Arsenal games. So if the game is on a Sunday, the engineering work will be on the Saturday.

I have noticed this too, Canary Wharf-Stratford has been closed on a few saturdays this year.
As to why....I have no idea.

Is it anything to do with avoiding 'late finish of engineering work' in the rush hour on a Monday morning?
At least if it's a Sunday morning it isn't as bad as a Monday - and the financial implications of overrunning engineering work might be less on a Sunday?

Probably due to events on the Sunday, there's usually something on at the O2,so closures on the east end of the Jubilee tend to be Saturday only.

Is it cheaper to get maintainance staff to work on a saturday? As Jamesb suggests it could be to provide a 'buffer' period against unforseen circumstances.

Good point - it's a shame that the efficiency of maintenance has declined so much that they need a whole extra day to guard agaist overruns! The onus should be on maintenance being done efficiently rather than inconveniencing passengers on Saturday.

I was gonna start a thread on this too as I was also wondering why the Jubbly was out this saturday only North Greenwich to Stratford. What puzzled me most though was that I saw at least two trains appear in West Ham's eastbound platform - and West Ham footy was on too. Most odd

Were they in service or could they have been sent to stable in Stratford platforms?

Was the reversing of the test train W of London Bridge interfering with normal traffic? I wasnt at work saturday, but usually it does hold the line up a couple of minutes, usually have one mid section, one held at Bermondsey, as well as Canada Water, sometimes even Canary. As for the East, they tend to let nothing past Westminster [until it has reversed], more rarely, Waterloo. [This info applies to any 96ts movements at LOB]
