Ive recent worked on an historical re-writting of the tube network based on what would have happened if the Morgan group had actually build there tube. The problem I have is that Adobe Illstrator can only save in SVG or PDF formats. Does anyone know how to convert them to JPEGs at all?

It's a while since I used it, but I think Illustrator has a "Save For Web" menu option that does what you want.
The JPG format is designed for photos, so diagrams won't look good in it. Look at PNG or GIF.

There's already such a map in the book London's Lost Tube Schemes. An updated version, including even more proposed lines, was printed in Underground News around April last year.
Any chance that you could post your version for us?

The problem Ive got it it has generated fairly big files and Im still learning about the program. Even as JPEGs the files tend to be near the 1MB mark each. The book you mention is the basis of some of my work but I wanted to include the whole map and bring it upto date. Which I finally did!

You can use The GIMP to import PDF files (with lots of options) and export them as JPEGs (again with several options) although you can (afaik) only do them one at a time and not in batch.
For SVGs, Inkscape is the one I've had most success with, although other programs are preferred by others.
Both The GIMP and Inkscape are Free software (GPL) and available for free download on the internet.
