Whilst browsing London street maps online seeing I'm such a wannabe Brit I came across the following which I found a rather odd name for an area. Sooo anyone care to explain what's the go with Pinnerwood Ho?
Apologies if my mind is in the gutter.

Ah, cheers for the assistance chaps, does look like quite a nice place actually. Wonder how much the residents would put the asking price at.

Even better one here! tinyurl.com/26o9r4Not Grims Dyke - look at the road name near it! So, if Pinnerwood Ho is really Pinnerwood House, how'd you explain Westward Ho!

Westward Ho! is actually the name of a book. From Wikipedia:
It is a very strange place.

English place names are often steeped in mystery as most originate from long before written history. There are many places that end in Ho, Hoh or Hoo and it generally means a "projecting ridge of land". Famous ones include Sutton Hoo and Luton Hoo. I can't say for sure what the meaning of "Ho" is in "Pinnerwood Ho", it may as Chris M suggests merely be an abbreviation for House. Here's some links: www.indigogroup.co.uk/edge/Religpns.htmwww.bbc.co.uk/kent/places/names/index.shtml

I don't know much about it (ask Google), but from what I gather it is a long-distance footpath that forms a circuit around the capital. The southern and western sections are regarded as the best (nice villages and canallands countryside respectively), while the bit around Pinner is one of the dullest sections (hence the house being a highlight) walking through uninspiring Green Belt villages
