Not strictly railway related, but perhaps of interest to some of the members: The Kingsway Tram Tunnel will feature in the next edition of "Disappearing London" on Tuesday 23 January, ITV1, 7:30pm. And if you've no idea what I'm talking about... underground-history.co.uk/kwupass.php

I find all this sort of thing interesting - I was gonna watch 'Disappearing London' tonight, but I'm back in Basingstoke at the min, and my mates telly couldn't pick up ITV London - drat!!!!!
Mind you, has anyone seen 'How London Was Built', with Adam Hart Davis? I think it's great.

"Disappearing London" has been shown on Sky 3 on Freeview before (which is how I've managed to see it), so they might show this series eventually.
In fact, there's an episode on today: Streatham Ice Rink and Witanhurst House in Highgate, at 1530 today on Sky3 (Freeview version: channel 11), or 0700 tomorrow. The same channel shows The Tube at c.0250 and 0600 daily, at present.

Witanhurst House in Waterlow Park... where my parent's wedding reception was many, many years ago!

Unfortunately I'm out of the London tv area; however I always can't resist a peek at the still extant subway entrance, complete with conduit tracks, at Southampton Row. I seem to remember tram tracks still in situ at Woolwich too, although this would be going back at least twenty years. Also, regionally, you can sometimes comes across "time capsules" from long abandoned tramway systems, such as at Margate where an old depot, complete with tracks exists on the A28 approach to the town.
I was recently reading about the old original City and South London Line (the King William Street end); presumably that is just now used as a huge duct for cables etc. And the Tower Subway entrance by the Tower of London is another emblem of a short lived curiosity.

There are still tram tracks in the cobblestones at the Old Sally Port in Old Portsmouth.

I encountered a photo of one of those streets while cataloging part of the museum photo collection. It went on the unidentified pile, then one of the curators mentioned that they were looking for examples of tram track for a display. He didn't mention if they were planning to take the track with them or just make a copy.

Just Seen it, Interesting, though it looks like some of the roundalls have been stolen from the walls compared to the pics on Underground London. :-(
Thought that when they said it would never be used again. Why don't they use it for the cross river tram??? Surely if it was the busiest tramway in London, it means it is needed/required, even if this is only historical Data, the Strand underpass has been closed so often for so long recently that they might as well close completely.
I'd love to see it in use again. there is so much infrastructure still there it would save soo much money and i think add prestige as people can see that London as well as looking towards the future can celebrate and appreciate the past.

I like those dissapearing London programmes. Love all the old fashioned shops still around.
For those NOT in London, but with Sky, ITV London is channel 993.
