My computer seems to have picked up something nasty from the internet At first I thought it was a problem within my Fire Fox software, so I deleted it - and now it's started with IE7. Almost all websites I visit; be it via my favourites list or by typing the address in, I end up with 'adult material' instead. The websites I end up with have different names, but the layout / content / etc is exactly the same every time (so it's obviously one thing that's causing the problem). I'm now down to three websites that still work fine - that's this one, TTF and Essex fire service. Quality . I have deleted all cookies, saved history & saved passwords. All are now set such that they shouldn't remember anything (though I know computers still 'record things' : . Windows firewall is active, as is AVG for virus scanning (both have been this way since well before this aggro started). The next best thing as I see it is to delete IE7 completely - but as this started in Fire Fox and only affected IE7 after I deleted Fire Fox, I'm thinking it probably won't work So over to the experts - is there anything else I can try? BTW, my time on the net over the next few days may be limited on account that I had a phone call yesterday afternoon - "your car arrived on the transporter today, you can pick it up tomorow". Yep, my brand new Fiesta ST is my 'new toy' ;D

If its a virus, which it sounds like, doing a system restore may not rid the system of it. When was the last time you ran a virus check and with what av?

Right, Colin, run these:
Download AdAware & Spybot and run BOTH in THAT order.
If that doesn't work then come back later and I'll give more advice... ;D

Forgot to mention; Ad-block is also set up (though not officially condoned on this forum!! ) and I did a full scan with AVG yesterday. The scan said it found nothing un-toward I take it Ad-Aware is different to Ad-block then? Anyway, thanks for the info so far - I'll most probably try all that when I finish work tonight. I'm picking up me new car soon!! ;D

Ad-Aware is a search for Adware. Ad-blocking just gets rid of the lovely popups.
THEY'RE MY POPUPS!!!! ;D

Ad-aware: get it here. You should have had it anyway as a weekly check: it picks up things not spotted by other cleaners www.lavasoft.com/And as TC says, ad-block is irrelevant either way.

You should also check the hosts file - some spyware programs will change it to force your system's DNS resolver to only return spyware site IP addresses.
You can find it in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc (IIRC).

If you have AV/Anti spyware *make sure the definitions are updated* youd be surprised how many people get it and
And I would not recommend removing IE due to how much MS have tied it in with Windoze, basically to try and hook stupid people into using it. Removing IE can cause serious problems unless you know what you're doing.
