The cynic in me thinks the "accidents" were staged!
How did the Royal mail van manage it? I am assuming the road leads to a postal depot?

Its a commercial vehicle, and has an enabler tag sensor thingy fitted...
I just said to the computer while playing that clip sequence: Bus Lane is for BUSES, not private cars... Use the car PARK...

Probably the driver's hand being knocked off the wheel and hitting the wiper control. I particularly liked the idiots in the urban SUV who set off their airbags, and White Van Man getting his comeuppance. In the US replacing all the airbags is often costly enough for the insurance company to total the car. Don't you love stupidity, driven by arrogance?

Posted that link on the notice board at work a few weeks ago, as we have a bus lane which uses those rising bollards. So far though, we've only had one car try to follow a bus and managed to write his car off! They certainly do some damage!
Just a shame they don't have them on all bus lanes, as the bus lanes up here are basically just a free-for-all these days.

One of these would stop them soon enough:

They are a superb idea... did see two incidents involving a bus and a car...
1. Golders Green. September 2004. driver of car braks the no left turn into path of 82 bus going to Finchley... bus swerves around car, clipping mirror, contretemps at the bus stop, resulted in motorist smacking the bs, from road level, only for the driver to just sit there and smirk... meanwhile two people had hopped into the abandoned BMW, and drove off towards Hampstead! [imaginative conflab with insurance rep; "and how did you lose the vehicle sir? Erm, left the keys in the ignition while chatting to a bus driver... Oooh dear, I'm sorry sir, you have invalidated your insurance... goodbye...
2. bus on 25 route, negotiates a parked delivery vehicle outside Bond Street station, driver in car tries to nip through the gap, just as the bus comes in to the verge.... ooops! Anyone for a Citroen Sandwich?

There are at least five sets of rising bollards in Cambridge as part of the various CORE (or Cambridge is full, go away.) plans. There is practically a parade of cars having to turn around in Silver Street during the tourist season.
Once someone in [insert name of expensive sports car] tailgated a bus in Bridge Street, with the bollard coming up through the engine block and writing off the car. We also had someone drive into the bollards in Emmanual Street. They must have been of American descent as they immediately sued the council, claiming that there was inadequate warning. This was thrown out as there are at least three sets of no entry signs, including one which flashes if a vehicle without a tag approaches. The council sued for damage to the bollard and won.

Excellent touch by the council, suing the fools who ignored the signs!

One thing that baffles me is the fact that the bollard stops when it hits summat... and which one stops is not relevant to which one the vehicle is on/over...

Personally, I agree with these bollards but on the planespotting forums in my home city...
Different perspectives from halfway across the world. Interesting stuff.
