It's a relief to know nobody was killed. The accident could be far far worse.

yeah, saw that in the paper; the occupant managed to jump clear, *just* in time...

I know what you mean Colin, but ultimately no-one wins. The car is wrecked, the occupant killed/injured. Train wrecked, driver injured/traumatised, along with the passengers. Infrastructure damage etc.

I think the train will survive, although the car will clearly not! Must be a hell of a shock for the train driver.

I think the train will survive, although the car will clearly not! Nah, that should just polish out! ;D At least nobody was injured.

Looks to me like the rest of the lights are off on the train, so maybe the digital display is one of those that gets turned off, while the batteries feed the essential supplies [emergency lighting etc] when the juice gets turned off?

Definately. It's controlled by the TMS and that would eat up the batteries.

I would disagree and say the [passenger saloon] lights look like they're still on - the windows on class 357's are tinted.........in fact, if you wait at Upminster platform one [at night] and watch a 357 come off the Ockendon branch, it always looks like it's in darkness (ie, all the lights off).
