Saw a link for Firefox 2.0 in one of those top 100 free downloads e-mails (from my Dad). Great, I thought, so I downloaded it (not knowing that it's only the development version).
Anyway, it completely stuffed up my Firefox 1.5.7, to the point that NO firefox would open at all. I uninstalled it and then re-installed it which returned all my favourites automatically.
The lesson here? Wait for the 'proper' version of Firefox 2.0 to appear!
D'oh!

yep, you are not really meant to run Beta software on your main computer, or one not backed up.
The software developers also make it very clear that they are not responsible for loss or damage to data or computer.
did you get to try 2.0 in the end? was it any good?

I don't find that particularly surprising - a lot of sites jumped the gun and began posting links to random pre-release 2.0 builds. The build engineers spent a lot of time going around getting the links deleted, but you can't stuff something like that back in the bottle...

And, David, as I've just posted in another thread, before doing something like that it's worth saving elsewhere not only a copy of your bookmarks/favourites (which we all do, don't we.....), but also a copy of your complete profile. That way, when your install goes wrong (and FF is notorious) you either just transfer your copied profile to the new install, or if it's too bad for that (been there......) just delete everything, start from scratch and install saved profile into program reinstall.

It is worth upgrading to 1.5/2.0? I'm still using 1.0.7 and it seems to do the job well enough.

True, despite my problems I would suggest getting 1.5.0.7 off the website. Well worth it.

Yes, not only for the mentioned security fixes, the speed increase with the new Firefox 2 will be considerable coming from 1.0.x. The official Firefox 2 is out now, no more leaked and unreliable versions. Get it at: www.mozilla.comPhil is right though, make sure you make a backup of important stuff like bookmarks and such! If you want to use a proper English dictionary instead of 'color', 'labor' and 'behavior' check this topic.

Just downloaded Firefox 2, installed it and restarted it with no problem.
The only disadvantage is that the plugins I was using in FF1.5 are incompatible but I expect they'll be updated soon,
If installing an upgrade is causing a serious problem, then I'd suggest tidying up the Windows registry.

Ive not had any problems with Firefox 2.0 - all my plugins updated and everything seems to be fine - I especially like the new tab function rather than opening a link in a window, plus the correct spelling function it has!
Try it - just make a backup in case something goes wrong.

For those who haven't discovered it (I only did on Saturday), the addon 'TabmixPlus' is brilliant. Gives you total control of what you do with tabs, including getting back the ones you didn't mean to close! This link should get you there. tmp.garyr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2582

including getting back the ones you didn't mean to close! FF 2 has that function standard already. You can reopen a closed tab with shift-CTRL-T (CTRL-T is opening a tab).
