How you and the fella concerned feel about and treat each other is between you, him and no one else. Tell the others to mind their own business.
Who knows, one day you might get it together again.

Good for you that despite whatever these circumstances may be, it seems you can both be quite mature about all this!

Love doesn't have to be of the "bf/gf" type, you know.

For goodness sake! I have a single female friend and have known her for 10 years or so. We were colleagues, and we then we worked together in a different environment on a self-employed basis. I am happpily married and have been for 20 years now, and my friend rings up and also speaks to my wife: She says "love to ...". Friendship with someone of the opposite sex is more important than a romantic relationship in my experience, and if it remains platonic so be it, but if it developes, then excellent. However a good friendship will revert to a platonic state if the romance dies.
Sounds a nice arrangement, and one that will go its own way. Best wishes to you both.
