Any info on the SWT smartcard??? Basically it seems to be the same as Oyster. SWT will accept Oyster for London destinations only. The SWT smart card will be accepted on the whole of SWT (but presumably not on LU )

I presume it would be compatable with Oyster though, as I doubt they would spend extra for more readers.

I suspect that they will either use the same technology but with different data, or use readers capable of intereacting with both types of technology.

Any info on the SWT smartcard??? Basically it seems to be the same as Oyster. SWT will accept Oyster for London destinations only. The SWT smart card will be accepted on the whole of SWT (but presumably not on LU ) I was hoping that I could put my YPRC on it, then use it on the tube, and get it to cap at the YPRC all day travelcard price of 33% off, rather than 5% off (which is why, off peak and if i'm going into zone 1, i buy a paper ticket, using my yprc - it's cheaper than a return on oyster!). being able to touch in at Southampton, and touch out at Amersham, and it working it all out would be very nice too, ditto doing Southampton - London, then doing enough in zone 1-6 to cap, so changing Southampton-London to Southampton-boundary zone 6 and crediting the user with some money. I'm guessing this will be doable if you stayed on SWT, though. Despite the flaws of having two compatable, but different systems, smart cards on SWT are a very welcome thing.

Well, now that SWT have started the ball rolling, it might persuade other TOC's to do the same... South Eastern said they couldnt do a similar smart card, because of the multitue of ticket types...
Also, don't forget ALL the TOC's have agreed to the implementation of zonal fares for Z1-Z6 from January.... let us hope these fares will be value for money...

The reason SWT are accepting Oyster is because it's one of the conditions of the franchise, I don't know about the whole network smart card though. I too hope the zonal fairs are good value, but based on recent events I have extreme doubts that those for First-operated franchises will be
