About 12pm today a bus driver was attacked on an E1 , the incedent which was witnessed by my 15 yr old brother who was on his way to college, said that the bus pulled up and two coloured boys around 18/19 got on and just walked past the bus driver and upstairs, so the driver stopped the bus and said he wasnt moving until they got off so one of the lads, walked up to the cabin and started punching the window and then the driver, they then got off of the bus and ran down the road, the police later turned up. anyone else heard about this?

Was it one of those buses with security screens? If so I didn't think it was possible to attack anyone with them installed? They are being fitted to more and more buses these days though.

Sadly, assaults on bus drivers are a pretty regular occurance, although since we had CCTV introduced to our vehicles, they have cut down drastically.
In that situation, if I have people just walk past me without paying etc, I just put a certain code number into the radio system, the controller will check where I am on the GPS (if it's working) and the police will meet the bus.

What would you do if the GPS system wasn't working? Just drive on and not risk a confrontation?

SY Mainline may have had a similar system at one point, as the radios could transmit various beeps to mean different things. I don't think they had any form of locator, so they might have used the timetable. Maybe I'm missing something here, but what stops the assailants from opening the door, the way the driver does to get in the cab?

Trust me kids round here dont give a rubbish about cameras No, I meant the plastic screens on some buses which are part of the drivers door. Whereas a normal drivers door goes up to the level of the dashboard, these have a transparent plastic screen going up to the roof. You see them on more and more buses, though some operators don't seem to use them.
