Hi gang, I've just found this fantastic website, it's based on Google Earth and Windows Live Local but ten times better, the satellite images are much more clearer, detailed and easier to see! www.flashearth.com/See what you think!

Brill-i-ant! Found our house and looked down on it from say 3,000 feet up. Also traced a couple of NR branch lines. Fantastic!

Also traced a couple of NR branch lines. Fantastic! Same here, I've been following Freight-only lines, such as the Stanford Le-Hope - Thameshaven branch and the Hoo Junction - Grain line. Being someone who takes photos of the railway scene, it makes it easier to find bridges/level crossings to take photos at, rather than just at boring, dull stations all the time. ;D

Just 'done' Marchwood military port...amazing complex! There were also two trains at Marchwood, one going to the MoD base and the other exiting the loop heading towards Totton Junction. There were trains at the Southampton Cunard Ocean Liner Terminal (2) on the Eastern Docks branch and also several on the Western Docks branch. www.railforums.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=52has my latest photos postings locally.

Wow - that's good! Found my house in great detail!
Does anyone else stick their head out the window and smile every now and then in case they're updating it?

I'm not really convinced that the images are any clearer than Google Earth. It is good that it works in a browser window though, as opposed to having to download Google Earth. However, as it ran v-e-r-y slowly on my laptop (G4 iBook), so I think I'll stick to Google Earth.

In contrast I can view these images on whatever operating system I'm currently working in, rather than being restricted to windows. It also gives me the chance to quickly choose whether Google Eart of Windows Live Local images are clearer for the particular location and scale that I'm imterested in at any particular time.
An excellent find, thank you Chris

what exactly? If the longitude is east of Grenwich the location is a red car parked on the bend in a residential street, if it is west of Grenwich it appears to be the northbound carriageway of a dual carriage road just east of two railway lines running approximately paralel. This is of course assuming the latitude is north of the equator...

That's what I found Chris. A useful (for some) co-ordinate is Lat: 51 21 31 N Long: 0 9 25 W ;D

Very nice find there - although it takes longer to load than Google Earth on my laptop. Still - fantastic site.

I'm not really convinced that the images are any clearer than Google Earth. That depends where you are: London seems similar. But if you live in a part of the country where you can still see wood pigeons hanging up in the local butcher, and you naturally stop for unattended cows crossing the road on the local common, the extra detail on Flash Earth is quite outstanding - a whole ball park away from Google Earth.

I thought google earth was good, until I saw windows local live. I still can't get a low enough profile on flash earth. No Imagery for this level for Kent.

I tried looking for Oz on Flash Earth and turned up with nothing. Apparently it doesn't exist.
Had a nice ole gander around Charing Cross way though and out to Ealing...
