No doubt incidents in the Middle East have a direct link to the price of fuel. In 100 years time, it will be water wars, as oil will have all gone by then, thank God I wont be here.

£102.9 is the most expensive I've seen for Diesel so far I have just returned from travelling around Italy, and thought that petrol was expensive there at 1.20 Euros (or so) per litre. But more than a hundred pounds seems very excessive!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Tesco's is 97p/litre where my daughter works but may be 96p in Southampton. Our local TEXACO is 108p for Diesel. They don't do much business on the fuel side I think, mostly the shop with locals and tourists.

It's around £1 for diesel and 98/99p per litre for petrol in Doncaster. I think there are still a couple of places on the outskirts, and various other places, where four-star seems to be sold. There's a type of extreme premium BP (I think) fuel sold in fewer than ten stations in the country, that is at £3-4 per litre.

In Australia, there is currently much political finger-pointing about petrol hitting the "unaffordable price" of $1.35 a litre. That is about 55p.

Lebanon and Isreal are not significant producers as far as I'm aware <edit> assuming you refer to the most recent events...The main component of fuel cost to the consumer is tax anyway... The biggest thing we could do to help fuel prices & dwindling reserves is to persuade our trans-atlantic 'friends' to use somewhat less of the black stuff...I somehow don't think thats going to happen in a hurry however!

Cheapest in Southampton is now Shell A35 outwards, 96.9p and Tesco's Shirley, same price but 1p less than the Salisbury Tesco's!
Scratch that! Tesco Express Burgess Road is 94.9. The dearest I have found is Glebe Garage, Sherfield English on the A27...£1.30 per litre for Leaded ****!!!!!!!!

I suppose high prices of 4* are justified though, given that there isn't much of the 'real thing' left. For what it is (proper leaded, rather than additive or a conversion to unleaded), that isn't too bad.

It is difficult to compare the price of any commodity between Countries. (ie. - Australia and UK ) owing to the different methods of taxing.
The price paid for fuel is usually "too high" and total money paid out on roads "too low" :-)

I think the UK petrol tax rate is around 400% which seems extreme. The very funny sign that started the post was prompted by gasoline hitting $3.00 a gallon in the US. Which works out to around 40p per liter showing that pain is relative.

Which works out to around 40p per liter showing that pain is relative. Keeping in mind, of course that we as a country typically drive monstrous things that probably get half the gas mileage of a typical car in the UK-- so the cost per mile for an average citizen is probably not that far off. We can change vehicles we drive however-- it's a bit harder to change the price of gas.
