If no-one esle replies...what I did which is the same for other forums I Mod and subscribe to, is to post a suitable avatar that conforms to the prescribed pixel size to one of my two websites using fttp, and then in 'profile' add the web address for that avatar (saved as a gif file) in the box provided. When you change your avatar, post it to your website and then modify your profile by quoting the new address.
If this is not correct, and it worked for me a couple of days ago, thrn please delete this reply and advise accordingly! And tell me to get stuffed!!!

Thanks very much for your reply oracle, I have printed it off and will give it a try. If it doesn't work it will probably be my error (not that conversant with such things) and I promise not to tell you to get stuffed. ;D ;D

Not sure if I understood oracle. What we have found to work best is to open a Photobucket account (free!!), upload the pic to that, then use the url Photobucket gives you in the avatar box.
PM oracle or myself for further help if you need it

PM oracle or myself for further help if you need it Yes, or send me your avatar and J'll post it on one of the three websites that I use...one is a corporate one and one based in the Good US of A so I'll probably use my personal one. In the UK. I promise not to tell you to get stuffed. Thanks but I thought the Mods might so advise me to see a Taxidermist as I am a newbie here, but a seven-year Moderator veteran of a site that has over 26,000 members.

Thanks but I thought the Mods might so advise me to see a Taxidermist as I am a newbie here, but a seven-year Moderator veteran of a site that has over 26,000 members. There are no pecking orders on this forum, nor do we bother about the number of members or who has the highest post count. We don't even care if you're a new member or 'been around the block' - as long you can contribute to the forum in a positive manner, that is all we ask

Great! This is what makes this forum so welcoming and a pleasure if not an honour to be a member of. If I can add anything from experience please let me know! I am also out to learn!!
