Any of you there got an Ipod? I'm thinking about getting one. What file formats can the Ipod accept in regard to music. I have a load of tunes on my computer in WMA format - and it **appears** by right clicking, I can send them to the portable device [Ipod] But, can the Ipod accept WMA format files???

I got a nice cheap MP3 player from datakits.co.uk. Looking at the website they don't seem to sell the one I have anymore, but they have a similar 1Gb one for 40 quid, for example.
Mine includes a radio, plays WMA files and basically does everything an Ipod can do for a lot less money. Unless you paticularly like the look of the Ipod, there are lots of better value options.

Trouble is tho, I have a lote more than 1Gb worth of tunes to go on. And with an Ipod being able to accept Video and photo, I think that might be a good choice. Cost is not an issue. It's a gadget I just have to have.

With iPods you have to convert the files into a correct format. If you download your music from apple, they're alright like this. The software comes with the iPod.

Yeah. I have an iPod video. You have to use iTunes with it and when you drag WMAs in there it has to convert them, and depending on what bitrate they've been ripped at, it could take a few minutes to something considerably longer. Unless you're dying for the classy iPod design, I'd look for an alternative. Creative do really good mp3 players and I think they're latest one wins over. Click here to have a look at the Creative Zen Vision. It costs a little more than the latest iPod (30gb iPod costs £189 on Amazon.co.uk), but it's more or less the same in terms of specs, if not offering a little more. It's far more versatile than the iPod and you don't need to faff around with file format conversions and the whatnot. The thing about iPods is that you need a lot of patience, from converting to the right audio file format to converting to the right video format (converting a 3-4minute music video to the correct .mv4 format for the ipod can take anything from 5-10 minutes, if not longer, depending on your computer specs). Sometimes an iPod can have a mind of its own! I hope this helps. (Phil: Sorry for throwing the board format around. Again! )

Ah thansk for that v3p1. I just found out that Ipods don't accept WMA formats 'directly', because they want you to use iTunes.
It's Ok if iTunes HAS the tunes you want....

It's Ok if iTunes HAS the tunes you want.... Yeah they dont always have what you want. An example is "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins, they have every other version but the original, which i what i wanted! On the whole i like Itunes, i dont have an ipod, but get on with the software very well. Itunes is on the list, but laptop comes first!
