Anybody else been completely screwed up by today's automatic update to FF? From what I read on their forum I'm far from being the only one!!
I'm writing this on Opera, which I downloaded out of sheer frustration - everytime I tried to fix FF it got worse. "switch off auto-updates" they say. But you CAN'T until you've opened it - by which time the auto-update has started!!
If you've got problems with FF - it's not your fault! If you're on FF and HAVEN'T got problems - you're bl**dy lucky.
If there was ever a case of "If it ain't broke DON'T FIX IT" this must be it: not even the older versions work now!!
The only thing I miss is adblock: I'd got used to nice clean pages on this forum!

Though not a Firefox reply, the subject matter is in a similar vein - as I type, Windows is trying to restart my computer as it's ready to install updates - and it keeps popping up with a reminder every 3 minutes. It's a shame I ain't ready though - there it goes again. AARRGGGHHHH ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Firefox is OK here as well. The only problem I do have is that one of the video plugins won't install and a small minority of web sites aren't set up for FF, but I can live with that. ;D

It's not so much a case of not being set up for Fx, its people not writing W3C compliant code...

its people not writing W3C compliant code... Right, I wasn't aware. I did once alert a retailer to the fact that his site didn't work in Firefox. His response was to say that he couldn't be bothered degrading the images or some other load of nonsense. Guess where I didn't go shopping. ;D

Personally I never use auto-update features, for precisely the reason you're experiencing now.

Guess where I didn't go shopping. ;D Basically MSIE will allow you to get away with all sorts of sloppy HTML code - whereas Fx is more strict, but some people still write the aforementioned sloppy code and assume you're using MSIE to view it...

Would completely uninstalling FF and then downloading 1.5.0.2 from the website not solve the problem? Personally I never use auto-update features, for precisely the reason you're experiencing now. Done that - twice (reinstalled, but from local exe file [FF 1.5 which used to work perfectly till 1.5.0.1 came along])- AND used system restore to try to get things back. Can't even open the passwords folder to save them! Won't open options. Won't open full page. Won't save forms or cookies. Blah, blah, blah!! Advice is good - may well have to, but that means losing EVERYTHING except bookmarks. Even then I think my total cleanups are not removing everything (don't worry I cleaned up both Prog files and App data) and there is still some corruption. Next time I uninstall I'll clean everything then defragment the disk: that'll confuse it (I've done it before with great success)!!

The only way to fix your problem is to delete your profile. The program itself is perfectly fine; you've managed to corrupt your profile.

I use firefox, and downloaded the thing, and every since then i have had problems with my pc being infected with a worm and spireware. I am also now getting pop ups coming up all over the shop, even though i have Norton, which is supposidly set to stop them, which it has done for the last X amount of years. The PC says that it is Firefox that is infectd, as it goes into overdrive with windows system messages when i open it. But i have uninstalled FF and re sinatlled it but the problem is still there! So if anyone knows how i can get rid of this silly worm (!), i would be most happy if you could let me know!

A program called Spybot from www.spybot.info can detect and remove most spyware. Have you checked that your norton subscription is still valid? If it runs out and you don't renew then the patterns needed to identify and fix new types of virus won't be installed. There is also a bug in most popup blocker software which allows windows created by macromedia flash (used for many animated websites/adverts). The best way to deal with this (and all adverts) is to use the Adblock extention for Firefox.

My Firefox is working fine. I would endorse both AVG and Spybot as mentioned above.

OK - a report . Uninstalled FF. Removed all traces from Prog files and App Data except bookmarks and localstore.rdf., which got sent to My documents. Next, a registry clean. Followed by disc defragment which I often find works wonders. Now reinstall from scratch. Reboot. Works fine........EXCEPT!!! It STILL opened windowed rather than full-page!!!!!!! That's why I saved localstore.rdf. Copied it back - lubbly jubbly! As for 3 days of Opera, it's got some great features but problems too, such as taking ages to load images even from cache, adblock cutting ads but sometimes (not always) leaving white spaces and so on. On balance FF is the better system overall.

Every now and then, my FF will tell me to that updates are available. I follow the clicky, but nothing loads, so I have never managed to get any updates.
Some other points... I use FF and IE, because some things won't open in FF (and sometimes the other way round). I can't get on with listing items for selling on eBay with FF, as the description has to be written in HTML code. In IE, I can use eBay's HTML generator.
I get asked to 'install missing plugins' by FF, but they won't load if I try.
Downloading add-ons for BVE is far easier in IE than FF.
I get silly error messages, such as 'this doccument contains no data', even if it is OK.

Again, a lot of the "problems" with Firefox aren't its fault. People have written websites with sloppy code which will only work in MSIE, hence if you try to access it with Firefox you get all sorts of problems.

But strangely, despite all my other problems, I've NEVER had FF refuse to download, or do a corrupt d/l. Not even with BVE add-ons. Dare I suggest your FF needs a reinstall (complete, as listed above, longwinded but well worth it).

Compared to how many in MSIE? Any large piece of software is going to have *some* holes, it looks like these have been sorted out pretty sharpish.

I regard it as a compliment to FF. It means it's become too important and too popular for the low-life to ignore!
