Am I the only member on the forum, who has a mouse mat but never ever keeps the mouse on the mat? I always move the mouse around on my desk, I find it extremely difficult to keep it on a mouse mat. Anyone else share the same problem?

No probs here matey - I have an Optical Mouse - no wheel to get stuck!!! I ditched the mouse mat because it was the mat which moved - not the mouse...

Whenever my Wife has been using my PC, the mouse is on the desk or on a book, as our mouse is rather poorly. I keep meaning to buy one of those non-wheeled jobs, but somehow I always forget, so have to put up with a stuttering mouse.

Bashing the mouse on the desk, or removing the mouseball and picking the dirt off the contacts usually helps... I wish I could get a keyboard cover to stop most of my eats ending up lodged under the keys - no matter how much you use the vac on the board - the food stays put.

I very rarely use the mouse mat - using the mat means I tend to use my wrist rather than my arm to move the mouse (and with Tendonitis in my right wrist, that isn't a good idea).
At work I use an A3 cutting mat for a mouse mat.

What they need to do is something like on laptops - just roll your finger over a small pad and hey!

Yeah *moves arrow around on screen to prove a point* ;D I love my laptop's touch pad! However, when I'm on the PC, I've got an laser mouse (optical mouse?), so I don't have to use a mouse mat ;D Oh - a question - why are the lasers always red? (I'd love to see a green one! )

If there's one thing I hate about my laptop - that is it ;D On the main PC, I have a small mat with a gel pad for my wrist, and a 'fixed' mouse with the roller ball on the side (thumb operated) - it's pure pleasure compared to a 'normal' mouse.

Oh - a question - why are the lasers always red? (I'd love to see a green one! ) I have seen green, red and some other colours when i was working in a nightclub. V expensive, but pretty cool none the less, especially when used with a fogger rather than a traditional smoke machine. I have also noticed that the "Laser" mice are not always laser most are LED the actual laser mice seem to actually have very difficult to see lasers. They are nowhere nears as bright as the LED mice. Againg through Experiance you are better off using no mouse mats with the ball less mice. most newer desk sufaces are designed for use as large mouse mats. Also the cheaper the mouse the more likely you will notice it jumping across the screen. IMHO the best cheap LED mice are MS ones.

Oh - a question - why are the lasers always red? (I'd love to see a green one! ) I could answer you but you'd get lost after the first sentence! Briefly in the commercial field it's all to do with cost, just like red LEDs are cheaper than blue ones. And the reason for THAT is down to red being lower frequency emission than blue. And I'll stop there (unless the AS/A students here pester me!). P.S I HATE touch pads - they always double click for me!!

I find i move my finger around and it ends up either highlighting everything or scrolling down. I just use a normal mouse and plug it into lap top normally.
