Hooray! It's officially the start of British summertime tomorrow (Sunday 26th March)! Whether or not the good old British weather will realise this is questionable!
However for those of you in the UK, don't forget that your clocks/watches/timers etc go forward by one hour at 0200 on Sunday morning... I'd hate for anyone to be late for work or other apointments! ;D
This message will self-destruct at some point on Sunday!

Whether or not the good old British weather will realise this is questionable! Also the beginning of the time of year when the Bees and Wasps come out to play. (and sting you) As you've probably guessed, anything that flies and can sting doesn't have a very good reputation with me...

For me, Moscow summer time will begin 3 hours earlier . Can't understand what has that thick layer of snow got to do with summer, though .

Might be the last time we do this, if the Eurocrats get thier way... They want us to stop putting them back, so next year, we'll put them forward ANOTHER hour, bring the UK into the same time as most of Europe [GMT + 2h]

Might be the last time we do this, if the Eurocrats get thier way... They want us to stop putting them back, so next year, we'll put them forward ANOTHER hour, bring the UK into the same time as most of Europe [GMT + 2h] Our time is based on the observation of the sun at its highest point in the sky (noon). GMT is just the nation using the same time as Greenwich. Let us never forget that this all came about as a result of the adaptation of 'Railway Time' to allow the timetables to be understood more easily when trains were travelling west. In these days of computers, it would be wonderfully easy to show the EU what we think of its directives by reverting once more to local time, with towns to the east of Greenwich running ahead and those to the west running behind. It is exactly what the Americans do when they drive across the country and pass through timezones except, instead of doing it every few hundred miles, you would do it every few hundred yards. And before someone asks how we would tell the time when travelling, no problem. GPS wristwatches!

When did we begin to use 'Railway Time' as the standard?

Soon after the GWR opened, I think. Got a postcard in my collection: The sun sets 20 minutes later in the West! Wonderful. It's an orange colour, with rough blue 'timelines' vertically.

Or if it does Scotland will be a different time zone from England from then on. It already stays dark till well after 0900 in winter up there and the Scottish Parliament has made it clear that if England changes to double summer time Scotland won't. Westminster wouldn't dare take the fallout from this one: this the third time in five years it's been proposed, and each time it's been quietly dropped.

I don't need to worry about putting my clocks forward before I go to bed - both my watch and my alarm clock take the time from a radio signal, so they will automatically go forward an hour while I sleep. (If I'm an hour late booking on tomorrow, the technology has failed me!)

Just to remind all UK members: If you wish the forum to show the correct time, click on your 'profile' button at the top of the page, 'modify profile', then scroll down to 'Time Zone' then adjust that to GMT + 1.

Phil is right in what he says, i go to work about 9.15, live near glasgow, and it can be pitch dark even at that time. would not want another hour of darkness in the mornings, depressing enough as it is.

Oops! Must admit I always thought it was 2am whether the clocks were going back or forwards! Not that it makes much difference to me as I always have my clocks set the night before anyway!

Well London Underground put clocks forward at 0200 hours on Sunday, it was on the front page of the Traffic Circular.
This is because all trains will be in depots by this time, unlike Night Buses who stick to GMT times.

Quick explanation:
It goes backwards and forwards at 0100 GMT ALWAYS.
It goes forward at 0100GMT to 0200BST. It goes backwards at 0200BST to 0100GMT.

Well, my radio-signal-controlled clock, updated the time at 00.59. There was no 01.00-01.59, just straight to 02.00. I watched it do this...
For those STILL confused about all this clock-changing thing, remember this SPRING FORWARD - FALL BACK
Spring as in the time of year it is now, [or appears to be, despite a 50mph wind howling through the building] and Fall refers to autumn when the leaves FALL off the trees. Simple, plain explaination,

I'm sorry, can I come out now?
;D ;D ;D I must admit I trusted the traffic circular too much on this one - i'm only human and do make mistakes.
