Isn't it strange how irony suddenly hits you in a cruel way... This week has been very tight for money, so I didn't bother to put my usual numbers on the national lottery. My wife informed me tonight that if we'd put them on, we'd now be about quarter of a million quid better off. We would have had 5 numbers and the bonus ball.
Imagine how p*ssed off I feel today! I've told the missus time and time again not to check the numbers if we don't put them on!

True, but if you did play it, all future events would of been different, if that makes sense!

Hey, it could have been worse. What if you hadn't put on the winning numbers for the Euro Millions lottery, I think that was for £100m!

My dad plays it every week and has done since it started, I think he has ued the same numbers and always and only won aout £30, and thats 3 x £10!

Where do you think they get the money from to pay the winners?
Lotteries are usually a marvellous form of voluntary tax payment. The mugs buy the tickets, the operators and government cream off millions, and what's left may get paid out in prizes.

Then he goes to change his numbers and his old numbers win millions! I bought a lottery ticket on saturday just to try and raise some funds. No luck. Though i have some numbers i normally pick but rarely do they come up. They have logic behind them though: S & C (one of my favorite lines) - 72 and 3/4 miles. I pick the numbers 2, 7 and 34 Weymouth - Waterloo - 144 miles. I pick the numbers 4 and 14 Which gives me 2, 4, 7, 14, 34 and i add my age (16) to make up them numbers!

Lotteries are usually a marvellous form of voluntary tax payment. Absolutely, it's essentially a tax on the stupid.

Absolutely, it's essentially a tax on the stupid. Indeed. Unless you win of course, when suddenly it becomes a game of skill! Like golf. Normally it's basically to enhance a walk. Unless you hit a fantastic ball. Somehow the walk turns competitive.

I always think that golf spoils a good walk ;D I was just thinking this morning about the Euro Lottery and the fact that more and more people are buying tickets because of the rollovers. This ironically makes the chances of winning less & less likely (and if someone does win... chances are they'll be sharing it with more & more people).....!!!

This ironically makes the chances of winning less & less likely (and if someone does win... chances are they'll be sharing it with more & more people).....!!! No Chris, your premise is wrong. The chance of your numbers coming up depends SOLELY on which numbers you choose, and which get drawn by the machine, whether you are the only player or the whole world is. What DOES change (as you said in brackets) is the chance of someone else choosing the same numbers and hence your chance of having to share your winnings. This is a very common misconception. If you have to play, it's always worth waiting for rollovers. While we are on lotto, can someone explain why anybody would want to play 'lotto extra'? Tickets cost the same as lotto, the jackpot is often lower than lotto, and you have to get all 6 numbers, so a far lower chance of a win.
